Rushing Leaders 2023

In 2022 it was mostly between Fletcher and Antwi, because Stanback went down with a serious injury in the first game of the season.

I feel the same as a few posters in here. Whoever is number one is kinda irrelevant to me.

Carey def killed it with his per yard average. And it’s hard to imagine the Stampeders not being too three again this year in run production.

But there are a few teams that seem like they could lead the pack for the running game production and committing to the run as vital part of the offense.

Don’t sleep on Montreal, as they seem to be going into the season with a three headed monster. Frankly they need to do so, as they are paying big money to that position collectively according to salary structures at the fb and rb position. I think they lead the CFL in committed money to these positions. And expect them to run the all a lot. Plus they will have a running QB in Fajardo. I see them leading the league in rushing and being productive per attempt also.

And the Roughriders are very much committing to the run game this year. It’s been well spoken by the new OC and the HC that running the football is going to be a primary focus. And why not with the tandem of Morrow and Hickson, who could prove to be the best rb duo on any team. They were productive by average even last year with a weak Oline. And should be even better with an improved Oline this year.

I see these three teams as the most likely to ground and pound the best. But TO could top everyone actually . They have several very viable capable by committee contributors. They too have paid a lot of money to the backfield. So expect them to run, run, run, especially with an unproven number one QB. TO could very conceivably lead the league in rushing at the end of the day.

All that being said, I see the Stamps as middle of the pack in rushing this year but will have an over mentioned and over talked about Carey as the leagues rushing Champion at the end of the year. I expect him to get the most Carries for 2023 if he stays healthy. Calgary will not run by committee to the same degree that I believe these other teams will divide and commit to the run game.

Can’t see a big commitment there this year. They invested so much money in the receiving core. I expect them to let the receivers earn their keep. Or they should, unless they like wasting money.
