BEING A FAN OF THE RUNNING BACK POSTION IN THIS SOME WHAT PASSING LEAGUE, WHO WOULD YOU SAY ARE THE TOP RUNNING BACKS IN THIS LEAGUE(CFL).
ROBERTS!!!!
Banks is up there.
(1) Roberts (2) Reynolds (3) Edwards
...Roberts....Davis ....Reynolds ...C.Banks...poor Kenton has fallen off the map...a guy I would rate right up there but.....wha' happened
Robert Edwards he is the most complete back he can run, block and catch passes what more do you want.
Edwards, Roberts, Reynolds, Holmes (Underated...playing in K.K. Shadow!)
Edwards is the most intelligent runner. He plays the blocking game to the perfection and run with his head up, looking downfield. He won't hit a hole just because its there. He'll evaluate the best routes and he communicate with his blockers during plays (watch him put his hands in the blockers back to tell them where he's going).
Charles Roberts is the fastest shifter around. If you let him get to his full speed, your doomed.
Guys like Josh Ranek and Troy Davis are most spectacular because they just run THROUGH people. They'll create their own holes. Don't fall cause you'll get stomped.
And guys like Joffrey Reynolds and Anotnio Warren are the best mix of the three caracteristics above.
In all, I'd say the CFL is populated with quality backs.
See i like Edwards since he played for the Univ. of Georgia, he was great in college and in the pros. He screwed up big time playing in a flag game at the pro bowl. He obviously lost a step, but rehab it and still has the ability to feel out a play. That's stuff you can't teach, you either have it or you don't.
How come no one's mentioned John Avery?
Charles Roberts is a great running back, always one of the top two or three in the league in rushing yards. I've always said I'd take Corey Holmes over Kenton Keith, partly because he's a north-south runner, and partly because he's a better special teams player.
I'll always be a Troy Davis fan, no matter who he plays for (well, maybe if he went to the Argos I'd change my mind.) He's a tough, scrappy, determined runner who can make something out of nothing, and was called on to do that way too often in Hamilton.
I never used to be a fan of Josh Ranek, because he has played for another team in our division, but now that he's with the Cats I can admit that he's one of the best. A really good runner, but most dangerous on the screen pass.
BigDave… just imagine what Josh Ranek could do if he wasn’t forced to create is own holes… A good o-line could make him the league’s leading rusher.
Last year, watching him “make room for himself”, I got to imagine what kind of scene the football field would become if he wear Legion of Doom’s shoulderpads… A bloodshed man… a freakin’ public slaughtering…
:twisted:I agree, there isnt really one typical back in the cfl.......you have everything from shifty speedsters like Roberts and Keith, power guys like Ranek, combination guys Davis, Reynolds......probably the only guy who really has it all is Edwards, he seems to be going down hill every time he has the ball.
Homer call of the day....
Antonio Warren.
GO LIONS GO!!!
my opinion may be a bit biased, but Charles Roberts really is in a league of his own, no other RB can truly be compared to him in the CFL. 2nd best is probably robert edwards, 3rd probably calgary's(his name has slipped my mind somehow)
joffery renoylds
Nobody mentioned this, but Warren is one of the backs if not THE back with the best hands. He can catch like a receiver. Gotta love to have that option when you are a QB...
