Royal Canadian Mint

I was looking for a coin for my child's first B-Day, and I was shocked that the RCM has nothing to commemorate the 100 anniversary of the Grey Cup. They issued a special coin for the Habs ' 100 years (rather nice really, I think I might get it), but nothing for this great NATIONAL institution. So much for promoting the cultural institutions of Canada. Just a little rant really.

Well, the 100th Grey Cup is still 8 months away...

No the 100th grey cup is 3 years away.
I do agree though, They have commemorative coins for all 6 Canadian hockey teams and now one for the habs No reason not to have the CFL teams as well.

Come to think of it, I tried to send them an email awhile ago but "contact us" was not working at the time... I think I'll try again

If anyone else cares to write

Huh... Why'd I think it was this year? Well, anyway, still plenty of time for them to do something.

Well, this year is the 100th anniversary of the first Grey Cup game ... it's just not the 100th edition of the game.

Would be nice to see a coin commemorating it either way.

You all missed the boat! The mint has already done a coin to commemerate the CFL....

Go back to 1987

In honour of Loonie Glieberman and his expertise Ownership & Management of the Ottawa Rough Rider Franchise, we got the one dollar Loonie coin.

That's right. We've had it for 100 years, but this technically won't be the 100th game.

Ok someone explain what # this years grey cup will be?

2009 will be the 97th grey cup game

The first Grey Cup game was in 1909, so this is the 100th year since it was awarded. But there were no games from 1916-1918. So the 100th game will be in 2012. A coin to mark both events is a good idea. And I think the league hasn't done enough thus far to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Cup itself.

It would be perfect for the CFL to celebrate 2 100yr anniversaries 3 yrs apart though.

Agreed ...

And, in keeping with CFL tradition, both 100th anniversary celebrations will be named "the Roughriders" :stuck_out_tongue:

I wrote the mint and they suggested I write the following person to submit a theme for a coin:

GEEZE!

I imagine that we will see a coin for the 100th EDITION of the Grey Cup. Be patient my friends.

Maybe it's a scientology thing.
