OTTAWA — On a wet and wild Thursday night in the nation’s capital nothing separated the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Ottawa REDBLACKS in a low-scoring defensive battle which ended in a tie. After the two teams traded field goals in the closing minutes of regulation, overtime drama couldn’t bring out a winner in a game which finished 22-22.
Wow! The CfLegue and it’s Command Center should embarrassed for determining the outcome of this REDBLACKS Roughriders game with their constant interference without the on field flags on the ground, ridiculous is only one word to describe what transpired. In a nutshell both teams played a good defensive game but this was also a sloppy game at times. Ottawa leaving 6 points off the scoreboard due to the Riders ferocious rush which blocked two Ward field goal attempts. Anyways, kudos to both teams for the entertainment.
Its really a shame that the command centre is now beginning to decide the outcomes of games. Overall an entertaining end to the game that was a defensive battle. Its becoming very difficult to understand when the command centre steps in and the decisions they are making. Credit to both teams and the infield officials… Command centre is the weak link…
I doubt you read any of this but if you care what fans think then it’s time to drastically tighten up on when the command centre gets involved. CC should only exist for challenges or not exist at all. I for one would prefer if there was no CC and we live with what the refs call for better and for worse.
Thank you,
P.S. The short travel weeks suck too. Get it together already. Greatest game on earth operating like a bush league.
Me too. I had already called a friend and left a message that “id never doubted the riders for a second” (after doubting them all week and picking against them). It kinda felt like 2009 GC lol
Great game regardless of the incompetence of the Command Centre.
The Roughing the Passer call when the Redblack clipped, took the legs out, sending the Roughrider mid air into Crum compares with the absolutely horrible call on the fumble recently. I wonder how the Command Centre considered that the Roughrider could stop himself in midair or earlier how Johnson was tackled and rolled backwards into Brown.
I am certain both plays were considered evil attempts by the officiating crews and the Command Centre believed both Roughriders could have stopped before hitting the quarterback.
.
Does anybody in the Commend Centre have any experience except for Foxcroft.
Brutal, this has to be fixed immediately
Time for Ambrosie to get fired this league has been in decline since he became commissioner
You can’t play defense at db anymore
Laughable penalties and constant mistakes from replay officials
If you have to use ultra slow motion to decide pass interference
Then it’s not pass interference
Was able to watch the end of the game but I thought that was a legit PI during live action. Mace was within his right to throw the challenge flag so I don’t buy the ‘needing slo-mo to determine it was a penalty’ theory. But the roughing the passing call by the Command Centre was just ridiculous. Entertaining game, horrible decisions/interference by the CC.
Having said that, had the Riders made a couple of plays, like squeezing the ball for an interception in OT, they wouldn’t have left their fate in the hands of an incompetent CC.
To be honest if Sayles makes the pick we are probably not talking as much about the command center. However the command center needs to stop looking for penalties that alter the game. And if they are going to step in the should make sure they actually get the call correct. By the letter of the law it was roughing the passer. However under rule 7 article 9 (a) pg. 56 contacting an opponent at or below the knees when that opponent is:
(a) in a backfield position blocking for the passer or kicker. As you can see #57 of Saskatchewan was contacted at the knee by the running back blocking for the QB. Which means the penalties should have at least offset and replay 2nd down from the 47. If you are going to make a call make sure you get them both.
This was a great game until the Command Center got involved. Let the officials on the field CALL the game and get that technology out of their ears so that they are not distracted by the chatter.
Still no article or comment on CFL website about the atrocious command centre interference last night. The league has no problem announcing fines against player whether penalized or not during a game, but no cfl journalist has mentioned the leagues mistakes?
Ottawa got screwed, Saskatchewan got screwed but Ottawa remains undefeated at home and still only 2 losses.
Saskatchewan halts their 2 game losing skid.
In the end it was probably the best outcome
I would agree but there should have been a flag thrown if there were penalties.Ottawa should have been penalized also in shoving Malik Henry into the qb.That would have been the correct calls.
Sadly, I have to say the command centre DID follow the rules on the roughing the passer penalty. Because the result of the play was a turnover, fumble was recovered by the Riders, they had to review it. Hate the call for the roughing, like someone said earlier, the cut block led to the low hit. But, I understand it all, I just do NOT like it.
