Rod Davis

Rod Davis has been released by the Als,along with Derek Schiavone.

Cox,Deslauriers and Green have been extended.

A good lunch is coming.

Richard

Well done Richard.

Deslauriers has been extended ?!

Popp always liked him, his progression stopped when Trestman arrived. I guess he gets a fresh start, its not like we have a bunch of quality NI receivers either.

But Deslauriers is now in his early '30s. What's there to salvage? In a year or two, he'll lose a half-step in his quickness, which would offset whatever the new OC can teach him in terms of route-running, etc. Head-scratching move.

Personally, I have no problem with Eric Deslauriers; he is a good player who has not been properly used. Worth keeping/extending.

With the release of Rod Davis, I do hope that the Als will try to sign Marcellus Bowman, Import LB with the Bombers and a potential free agent. He is 6.03,228 and only 26 years old. He may have NFL aspirations, but I doubt it. The release of Davis has reduced the salaries by no less than $100,000;hence, there is cap space for a player such as Bowman.

If Dwight Anderson and Seth Williams are not re-signed, the Als/Jim Popp may try to sign Evan McCollough of Argos or Deon Beasly of Bombers. I do hope that Seth Williams is re-signed. The non re-signing of Anderson is understandable, with the signing of Byron Parker.

So far, most of moves by the Als have not added too much to cap; hence, Porter signing meant the release of Adrian, Arland Bruce the release of Bratton and Parker the possible non-signing of Anderson.

La Presse this morning saying Jerald Brown will have to take a pay cut because of the bilingual Osaisai and Gainey.

Gainey I can accept, but Osaisai?? Really? So Thorpe’s gone through his evaluations and he thinks Wapamo F. Osaisai is worth keeping?

Oyyyyyyyyy… :thdn:

That’s insane.

If this is Thorpe's first decision as D/C, then I truly hope that the new head coach dumps him or moves him, and brings in Mark Nelson or Gary Etcheverry as D/C.

I am not surprised if Jerald Brown is asked to take a pay cut; hence, he signed a lucrative contract after his 2010 season, but he has not been the same ever since. Yes,he has been injured in the first game of 2011 and his play was not worth his pay,in 2012; he was beaten on a few occasions by players such as Owens and Williams; if Anderson is re-signed, Jerald Brown could eventually be released, whether he accepts a pay cut or not. He is 32

Players/defensive backs such as Carlos Thomas and Geof Tisdale, both released by Hamilton, could be signed by the Als.

Richard

I'm not surprised about Brown potentially taking a paycut, for the reasons Richard mentioned. I am, however, surprised that it's being done to accommodate Osaisai of all people.

quickness?! never realized he had that characteristic…

this is one I have to disagree with you on. How can a player his size be taught to catch a ball when it’s between the numbers?
How many times did the ball hit the carpet that had o business being dropped?
How many times did he ever use his size to his advantage over the smaller DB’s? I can not recall, and in fact, remember him not out reaching an Argos defender in the Eastern Final.

He has never impressed me as a receiver and found him disappointing given his size.

Money could have been saved and spent elsewhere. Surely Popp can find a NI that would not cost as much and do an equivalent job or even better.

so were many of the other Als d players
