REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced on Friday that they have signed American quarterback Jack Coan.

I’m sure that the usual suspects in Rider nation will have decided that Coan should be the starting qb already.

I am a Rider fan. Not convinced that Trevor Harris is the answer, though with a good run game, he might do all right.

So why is this “apparent superstar” available? Is his game more suited to a CFL field and CFL play than it is to NFL? Or is he another player coming north with on-field or off-field issues that make him persona non grata in the NFL?

Coan was the starting QB for the San Antonio Brahmas in 2023; that team posted a 3-7 record.

Coan completed 158 of 254 passes for a completion percentage of 62.2, and 6 TDs against 6 INTs.

And Coan was not all that at Notre Dame either as a graduate transfer for his final season in 2021 (now an obsolete concept in NCAA Football), despite a team with a good record, though with a weak schedule and losing the bowl game.

He’s “meh,” at best.

Many rider fans ( not me) also thought our former coach and our former QB were junk and had nothing but shite yo say about them…how did that turn out for the Als :sun_with_face::rose::rose:
Dynamics of the O are changing drastically this season . Hopefully a run game changes the status quo of the past few seasons

Class Act person. Teammates from college and Brahmas praise his ability and character. Won at two major college football programs - neither one was pass oriented. Notre Dame had no offensive line and only the TE was a true receiver. At the Brahma’s in Dan Antonio- again, no offensive line. As for his stats- dropped balls show up as incompletions- not the QB’s fault. Watched this young man since his 8th grade. Smashed every New York State record. If Riders have any decent offensive line and two quality receivers, Coan will deliver. Watch and see. His teammates will take to him the first day. And Riders fans will appreciate the talent and character he brings with him. If you like Curt Warner, you will like Jack Coan.
