Riders claw out comeback win in Ticats home opener

HAMILTON — The Saskatchewan Roughriders rallied and ultimately roared against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for a second comeback win in as many weeks.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.cfl.ca/2024/06/16/riders-claw-out-comeback-win-in-ticats-home-opener

The Tiger-Cats loosened up on defence far too early in the fourth quarter, to prevent the big score, allowing the foxy-smart Harris to smack them with a loss; first, with a field goal and then a touchdown, followed by a bit of luck with a winning field goal.

TiCats highest paid receiver Tim White dropped a perfect pass right in his hands in the end zone with no defender contact which lost TiCats 4 net points (the margin of points needed for victory). Then there was Tim White’s ball juggle fumble which set up the interception that “again” handed the victory to the Riders. I was hoping for a better game from Tim White after his dropped passes in the Calgary game. If Tim White’s poor performance costs us another loss in Regina next week, expect Coach Scott to say 3 strikes and you’re out!!! White’s high price salary can be put to better use when White is CUT and players are brought in who can actually do their job……

I’ll call the bobble interception that gave the riders the win a football gods karma moment after that fumble recovery overturn. The sports world has a way of balancing out sometimes.

Perhaps the new six-million dollar man Bo Levi is throwing the ball harder and faster, with such force, that the Tiger-Cat receivers need time to adjust to the velocity of the ball.

That was freak incident that you could not practice to have happen

A win is a win so I have to hand it to the Riders. But man, they’ve had their share of luck in both games. Maybe Mace will make a believer out of me yet. :grinning: Another bout with the TiCats likely sees them go to 3-0. I’ll reserve judgement till I see how they fare with the Argos, Lions, Bombers & Als after the 1st 3 weeks. But, for now, hey it’s all good. Break out the Scotch.

Yea, the test would be vs the top three dogs.
That is also why early season wins are important. Even lucky ones still notch up a W in win column. Not like you plan to lose but we don’t often see teams have perfect seasons. So the lucky wins are just as important as blow out victory.

The Riders played hard and never let up - so I congratulate them on their fortunate win. The Cats could have won their first two games this season - some bad luck and odd occurrences got in the way. As a fan, I am still supporting them - there is no reason not to. What I do wonder about is just where in the hell did their running game go and what is going on with Tim White? Butler was totally nullified in his run game and White seems to have the dropsies - this is where the coach needs to come in to calm the waters

Hamilton by 10 against the Riders!

The Cats also totally shut down the Rider run game. It might take teams a while to figure the run defences they are facing. Both these teams said they were going to rely on setting up the run to be successful. Time will tell.

I had to finished watching the game this morning after some guests pop in hoping to enjoy a back yard fire pit…
When I turned off the TV I thought Riders were done, “WOKE” up this morning my cat had died (ya , we listen to a bit of Nazareth and old rock around the fire) Riders orchestrated an outstanding comeback.
Big congratzzzzz to my second favorite team in the CFL Saskatchewan Roughriders

I was pretty happy about it too. Could not believe the lucky INT that set up game winning 3 points with no time on the clock

I said all last season and this preseason that Bo. Was done.
That ain’t the case. Bo played an excellent game. The interception that cost the game was certainly not on Bo.

I am not sure why you included the Bombers in the top 3. Last year’s “press clippings” and/or reputation won’t win them any games. They are a different team, struggling with only 31 points scored TOTAL for two games. They have lost players to injury and attrition. Collaros doesn’t have the same protection, and has become average, at best. They will struggle to make the playoffs. If they lose to BC this week, it will be a long road back. Looking up the butts of 3 teams ahead of them is not a pretty site. Before the season started, in a private draft, I picked them for 3rd…now, I am not so sure they will even get there.

I mean sight, not site. Anyway, the Riders have taken a page out of the Bombers MO…winning on bounces going their way. (not including that very bad rule about helmets) Wpg. were a good team…“you’ve got to be good to be lucky, and lucky to be good.” It is time for another team to wear that mantle.
