There was no put down intended, and I apologize if you derived that meaning from my post. What I was trying to get across, is the perception that Montreal sports fans IN GENERAL expect and demand success, and will not continue to sell out their stadium when they see their team mis-managed to the extent they have been post-Trestman. I mean, look at where WE have been over the years before Austin…
Accept thats not true the leafs have a ton of fans from coast to coast and ill bet more than 50.1% of NHL fans in Canada like the leafs in the words of Metallica Sad But True.
As far as the Green team HAHAHAHA FOUR CUPS IN OVER 100 YEARS yep what a team!!!
In the grand scheme of things does Rider loyalty or blind faith really matter? Face it, outside of the Riders what do Sask residents really have out there? Curling maybe (gasp) but outside of that I really don't know & nor do I care. Am I glad they are loyal, yes. Am I glad they support the CFL, yes. While you could never pay me enough to live there (AKA: the Great Canadian break wall) someone else obvious loves to live there so let them be as loud & proud as they want.
As for your Leafs comment.....you are sadly mistaken Leaf fans = 12%, the REAL Canadian team is Canada's team....as credible as the poll is....
I think your correct about that. It would not take much bad management for media in Montreal to turn on the Alouettes. Its rooted in history from the 80’s ownership, we came close last year to the tipping point. Luckily the team managed to turn what looked like a disastrous season into a competitive one.
As the thread has detoured to the Als, I wonder whether too much was read into low attendance for their 2014 playoff game. I heard the tickets were expensive and it obviously wasn't going to be the same kind of event as when playoffs were held in Olympic Stadium. Als average attendance was down last year but that was mostly because of the first part of the season. When their play improved, it bounced back to close to previous levels.
It is not uncommon in the CFL for playoff attendance to be below the season average.
My bad. Sorry about that. I understand a lot better now. Yes, the team can’t afford to be mismanaged. Poor product on field is one thing, but the gong show we’ve been through the past two years is quite another. Thankfully, things appear to be stabilizing this season.
For all the “gong show” the Als managed to re-sign pretty much all of their free agents (only losing Carter to the NFL) plus add Giguere, Volny, Lewis, Stamps, LeFevour and a couple of others. Plus they have a new OC and special teams coach. And just to circle back to the theme, while the Riders don’t exactly look to be in disarray, their losses to free agency are significant. And I am not sure that Chapdelaine is an upgrade over Cortez at OC.
This might not be popular but I kind of like the passion Rider fans have even if it is a little misguided...maybe the city of Toronto could learn something from them??
I love living in a province that is 110% behind the CFL. I WILL BE A OSKIE WEE WEE’ER FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE & SCREW THE RIDERS, but at least the people in my new home care so much about something so Canadiana, (as opposed to the likes of most Ontario or Nunavut citizens for that matter).
If you don’t like the Riders and the Province of SK claiming to be Canada’s flagship Team, then please do yourself a favour and fill out a hurt feelings report for gods sake and mail them to Brad Wall!!!
I do like the thought of the Riders being Canada's team.
After all they have fans country wide that actually show up in good numbers at all CFL stadiums.
I even saw a many on TV at the Brier so far this week.
Point not taken. How do you explain the large numbers of Riders fans that attend games across the country in other cities? Let me help you out with that. It’s because we’re huge CFL fans, it’s what we love. I haven’t missed a Rider game in Vancouver (pre-season, regular season, playoffs) since 1991, and I’m certainly not alone in that. And there are certainly many, many other options I and my Rider fan collagues could choose from out here. And your condecending take on lack of things to do in the province of Saskatchewan is pretty darn patronizing for someone who never grew up there.
I thought Ti-Cats fans were alright. After reading this thread you come off as a bunch whiny babies.
My morning laugh…thank-you…“whiny babies”…REALLY…us T-Cat fans have been called allot of things but never that…maybe bullies or bad !!! let me remind you of the crying out right fits over the 13th man on the field in a certain Grey Cup not long ago…sorry you opened the door…but Cheers anyway!
