Time for a bit of friendly trash talk between the fans that hate the other team with a vengeance. Rider fans hate the Bombers and Bomber fans hate the Riders. Let’s keep it civil though with no personal attacks on the fans of the other team.
These next two games will likely determine the order in which these two teams finish the regular season. (I do think they both get to the playoffs and that is a new season entirely).
The way I see it, the Bombers are playing well lately but have won some very close games that could have been losses. The Riders are playing well but have lost some close games that could have been wins.
If the Riders sweep, they will be in great shape and the Bombers will have to win 3 more than the Riders with only 5 left. A tall order: advantage Riders.
If the Bombers sweep they will be ahead and have the advantage for the rest of the season given a long winning streak and the Riders having a long winless streak and the season series. Advantage: Bombers (but not as large as a Rider sweep for the Riders).
If they split, the Riders will still be 1 point ahead of the Bombers with the season series. The Bombers will have to finish with more wins than the Riders. Advantage: Riders but very small.
Let the Banter begin.
LDC : I see that the Riders will be desperate at home and nearly always play well in the LDC. They handled the BB in Regina last time and I see our defense shutting Winnipeg down. The Bombers are on a winning streak but just as easily could have lost some of those games. Their offence can be scary but then it can look very average. Harris and the Rider offense needs a few tweaks but I think they make these and start to score TDs.
Banjo Bowl: This one is always tough but I see the Riders starting to roll and the Bombers reeling a bit.
I remember a time when the Bombers were 7&2 and the Riders were 2&7 going into this series and the Riders sweeping. Records mean nothing right now, this series is for pride and it is usually like a war.
My take is the Riders win both, virtually locking Winnipeg behind them, and the Bombers will be fighting for 2nd/3rd with BC who will shake their slide and Rourke learning to play again.
I’m not into trash talk so won’t go there. Nothing more than a little good natured ribbing.
After the Bombers the Riders have always been my second favourite team. I have partied with many of them over the years. Always friendly and good natured, no matter who wins. I still vividly remember partying all night with Sandy Monteith, the Flame, after a Jets game in the late 80’s/early 90’s. One year after an unseasonably cold fall game I even helped a Rider fan and his family get back home by giving him a boost when his tractor wouldn’t start. I still have the banjo that he gave me in gratitude.
True Rider and Bomber fans make these good natured jokes all of the time in good fun. As to the next two weeks, you are correct in that Saskatchewan always seems to prevail in the LDC, even if they have a terrible record up to that point like they did in the 2-7 year you refer to. The Bombers usually win the Banjo Bowl however.
Coming in the Bombers have a decided edge in recent play with only a lucky for them blown command center decision preventing the Riders from being 0-5. Winnipeg is hotter although underwhelming in their most recent game, which they still won. Sask should have beaten Montreal easily but didn’t. Both teams inconsistent. Zach was horrible last game. Lauther horrible against Montreal. Saskatchewan will be facing the best defence they have seen all year. Should be close, but I’ll call a split.
I posted this in the Rule Change_Rouge thread, I do believe it fit the parameters of your quest…
Picture it… @ LDC. Bombers are on the 25 yardline of Riders, Castillo is injured, the score is tied, 8 seconds on the game clock, second and 10. The ball is snapped to Zach who hands the to Oliveira, Brady runs back to the 31 yardline and takes a knee…
…final conclusion the Riders deliberately take a RTP penalty on Zach to move the ball up to the 16 yardline, Bombers decline the RTP penalty, Bombers set up for a FG, bring in punter Jamieson Sheahan for an attempted to deliberately kick the ball with enough force to go through the endzone…and as Cactus Jack would say, "and it turned out nice again”
Edit, to add more content:
this is an actual play the Bombers plan to use in the 2024 LDC, it’s a secret, don’t tell the Riders.
If this didn’t satisfied you, I’m sure the Bombers fans will pickup the tab for breakfast as long as the eat at that same establishment a few years ago…talk about the “green team”
Riders win at home
Bombers a toss up to win in the Peg.
Sorry bomber fans you done had yer way with us for one too many seasons …it ends here
We play each other on the west final and a coin flip decides who wins.
. You ain’t gonna like that ending either or so goes my fairytale.
I heard Doug Brown (I think) on the radio say that the LDC should really be called the Pre Banjo Bowl Game, as it’s not on LD. Makes sense to me, and has a nice ring to it
I think fans of either team will be OK with a split.
The alternative is extreme joy/dispair
Riders have an extra day to prepare, and ofcourse we’ll have to see if the refs call everything their way again (that was the game with those brutal PI calls this year).
LDC
Then the PLDC
POST LDC hillbillies In Saskatchewan and The Peg that cannot figure it out or just too hibillyish.
Bragging rights are on the line for both games.
Yup, hope for mighty fine games… Some brave talk by some of us fans. Mine is for comedic relief by the way.
But dammit I hope them Riders take both.
You shouldactually plan to take in both games back to back in one season.
Spend a day sight seeing Regina
And 5 days sight seeing in the Peg…
Damn!! Ya gotta be real good for that hate:star_struck:. That leave out the Elks, . Long ago , Stamps vs Eskimos had that intensity. How about country, toe tapping ,fiddle bowl instead of Hawaiian ukuleles?
