I started watching the old games last year. I’m up to the 1960s now. :joy: Admittedly, I don’t do it very often.

lol it’s unreal how slow everyone in those old games looks compared to now. but it looks so brutal with the minimal padding and weak helmets. also love the old pbp commentary lol.

Yeah I noticed PBP differences for sure. The other was 5 points for a touchdown.

i like seeing how equipment evolved too. like they went from the extremes of tiny shoulder pads to the huge ones in the late 70’s and early 80’s era.

I honestly don’t think we’ll ever see CFL players drowning in mud (or so it seemed) again either

I have seen a few of these retro games from the 50’s and 60’s and one of the fun things was watching the marching bands as pregame and halftime entertainment as well as the use of a chalkboard to show the game stats . It’s also crazy to see that the fans actually had access to the field with standing room sideline seating , much like you see in todays NBA .

I just found this on You Tube it’s the 1961 Grey Cup from the year I was born .
Surprise , surprise it was Winnipeg versus Hamilton . It appears to be the entire broadcast of the game as originally seen from start to finish . Enjoy .

hah i found that one yesterday and bookmarked it to watch in the future. looks awesome.

the chalkboard game stats are hilarious.

1961? you’re older than i thought  you got 7 years on me, i turn 55 in a few weeks.

It must have been 1961. The stands in Toronto look full.

haha. and the leaves won the cup in 61-62 season on Bill Barilko’s OT goal so yes very long ago. i still can’t believe i was born the year after the last time they won it. so many playoff chokes since.

You reminded me of other videos where I saw Grey Cup Parades and “Miss Grey Cup.” Not everybody likes that kind of thing but I enjoy the odd float with people waving at a crowd.

hah i remember the Miss Grey Cup thing. she would sit in some convertible and wave while it drove around on GC weekend and on the field at halftime or whatever. i wonder how they picked the Miss GC? pageants are horrible things though.

I figured it was whatever girl could throw a football through a rubber tire. Naturally I came to that conclusion after watching 90’s Football movies.

It’s also hilarious to see the rollercoaster from the fairgrounds looming in the background .

I may be older than you thought but I’m probably one of the younger guys on this forum . :grinning: I was only around 5 months old when this game was played .
The funny thing of it though was I was destined to be a lifelong Cats fan as my dad gave me the initials of T.C for my first and middle name . :smiley_cat:

Yes that’s right folks , contrary to popular belief my real name isn’t Bobo .

Even worse for me I’m triggered by parades and motorcades.

I think it’s a JFK thing.

I hear ya Jon , I’m triggered by open sixth floor windows and grassy knolls .

At the league office, we uploaded practically every Grey Cup we could find back in 2020 to Grey Cup On Demand - CFL.ca; there’s 20 minutes of 1950 Grey Cup footage available here:
