REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders are reportedly working to keep their pivot in house.
TSN’s Farhan Lalji reported on Thursday that quarterback Trevor Harris has agreed to a one-year extension with the Green and White. Harris was scheduled to become a free agent in February and was listed as No. 6 on CFL.ca’s top 30 pending free agents list.
I believe this is the best solution for 2025. Trevor had a great season in 24, while healthy. 7-4 record, very good stats. O line was much better in front of him this year, despite the absurd amount of injuries. This give the riders another year to either prepare Patterson or bring in a more ready-to-start backup.
Oh, and queue up @Bom1980 critisicm of old man Harris, JO the useless GM and Reynolds the devil incarnate himself.
Cody Fajardo was the largest hero last season (2023) with the proven skills of a Grey Cup winner and in first place in 2024 to be so easily dismissed by his team and so little interest from the rest of the CFL. I do not recall a player with these qualities going unnoticed in the CFL. No recent quarterback record ( last two seasons ) compares in quality to Fajardo: not Adams, not Harris, not Bo Levi Mitchell.
It would behoove riders oday to get off his big fat duff and sign qb Cody Fajardo after he admits he doesn’t know how to properly evaluate elite football talent while saying a kissy face sorry to Cody for kicking him to the curbside. Bringing Cody back with a nice big fat player contract as the starting qb would be a start to making amends plus Cody’s baby Son is from regina. On another note the other rider qb’s in the stable are not long term pro caliber and Ole Man harris won’t stay upright and healthy 2025, you’ll see riderdum/ville. Having no alternative, oday jumped the gun signing trevor to ridiculous money once again after The Ole Man said all the right things to milk another contract at his old age. Oh well, Cody Fajardo is your answer at qb riders, there I solved your team dilemma.
Patterson is not a Franchise QB, Roughriders need to SERIOUSLY look at Jack Coan. Harris supports him and has said he could be the Franchise QB in house!!!
Go Riders
I know the business side of football can stink, but still… Between what’s happened in SSK and MTL Cody must feel like the Rodney Dangerfield of QBs.
Not sure what he’s gotta do for a little respect.
I know why he lost his job – Alexander was clearly the logical/practical choice going forward. But like I said, the business side of football can stink, and it certainly stinks for Cody in this instance.
My reference to respect was more of a generalization of how things have played out for Cody the past several years (though he was certainly disrespected by the Riders). Given his accomplishments to date you wouldn’t think he’d be in the position he’s currently in.
No question, it’s a tough business. But if you were familiar with Cody’s play in 2024, you can’t really be surprised that he’s in this position, given the oversaturated QB market and his own performance. He had a good start to the season, yes. But then he got hurt, rushed himself back before he was fully healthy, underperformed, got hurt again (ribs) but tried to play through it, and finally turned it a bad performance in our EDF loss, which he didn’t take responsibility for at all. If he wants to be respected, he has to be a better leader and simply more consistent on the field.
Even in 2023, he had an average season that he capped with a legitimately outstanding Grey Cup MVP performance. Fair play to him. He was full value in that game. But one game is only going to get you so far.
Wait till you see Davis for a season, not in a back up role. He may be the next Ricky Ray or he may be the next Dane Evans. You don’t know what you have yet. And I genuinely do hope he is awesome!
This is true. I like Cody, I wanted him to stay in SK I believe management made the wrong decision getting rid of him and Maas and keeping Dickinson. I was vocal about that. But Cody leans a little too heavy into the whine and poor me stuff rather than owning his own shit.
Fair, but he went 4-0 as a starter in 2024, which doesn’t even include coming off the bench to replace an ineffective Caleb Evans and leading the Als to a comeback win against Saskatchewan. So we do have some indication of his ability to produce. I don’t think he’s the next Ricky Ray (generational player), but I do think he’s earned the starter’s job in 2025. Now we’ll see how he fares as the undisputed starter.
I think the Als did what they had to do and I hope it works out. Really all I’m saying is I’m not convinced yet, but his history says they had to go for it.
Once oday gets off his fat duff and owns up to his stupidity he’ll give permission to Assistant Gm Paul Jones to re-aquires qb Cody Fajardo from the Montreal Alouettes then cfl fans can anticipate a major earth shattering cfl trade when record setting starting qb Bo Levi Mitchell comes to regina with Cody Fajardo going to Hamilton to play for the Tiger Cats as their starter. Good astute football deal .
Sorry for the late reply.
If what you say above is true, then ya, that’s obviously not the team-first attitude expected of a leader. But there always seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding Cody’s injuries, with some blaming him for playing injured, and others blaming coaches. One thing’s for certain, he’s injured a lot, and that’s his only drawback IMHO.
