Report: Shiltz to miss time with wrist injury

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ quarterback situation appears to have gotten a little more complicated.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.cfl.ca/2022/08/30/report-shiltz-to-miss-time-with-wrist-injury/

This is pretty much the definition of piling on.

Things look bleak in Tim's Town right now. If they don't get some better luck soon it might be curtains. Can Dane Evans turn things around?

I think that's known as a million dollar question (being asked by an incredible amount of people right now). Tough times in Tiger Town.

If the interview below is any indication, I’d say chances are slim.
Kinda hard to fix something when you don’t know what’s broke.

Its too bad for Evans. Word is he works really hard and puts the time in. I was actually looking forward to seeing him make a good splash and make the TiCats competitive.
It seems like he hasn't been the same since his injuries. Is it subconscious?
I don't know.
But I hope he can get it together, because he really does seem to be trying hard and I don't think he is solely responsible. A lot of mistakes for the Cats this year from coaching down. Maybe GM and HC duties are too much for Orlando. Just wondering?

In the real world if we're constantly rushed to do a job that we could NORMALLY do well if given enough time, it would follow that the quality of our work would usually deteriorate... sometimes noticably.

If the difference between Dane Evans completing a pass or throwing an interception is ONE EXTRA SECOND then I'd either trade him away or find a way to get him that extra second.

That's an interesting observation. I like that.
There definitely has not been great protection this year. I notice a couple of his interceptions are from rushes.
So some help from the front line may be very helpful.

Evans right now has zero confidence. He's like a deer caught in headlights. Just watch how many times he licks his fingers before a snap. It's a nervous twitch, showing un-decision and a lack of confidence. He's unsure. It's too bad, because he is one good QB. He's got to get past this, take the bull by the horns as they say, and just get it done. Hopefully he will, because if he can't, he'll be finished.

Then I don't care what the trainer says. Dane's practice of handwashing in gravy instead of water must stop NOW.

Ron1, I hope he can shake it off too.
I'd really like to see what he could do with his confidence back and things going right for him.
Otherwise, I think you may be right.
Because if he's not confident, did he lose the room? Then he will be gone.
Too bad.

The Cat's offence is firing on two cylinders Dunbar and White. Orlondo needs to rehaul the offence and get another big, fast receiver to get the team up to speed. A new, big guy up front to protect Evans would help too. Evans must be told that he can make all the mistakes without fear of punishment to ensure success - a seasonal get-out of jail card - and Evans can take the team to the Cup with the addition of one more powerful receiver. Can Orlondo find the receiver, in time, to go to the Cup?

Man, if there wasn't such a thing as bad luck, the Cats would have no luck! Talk about getting kicked while you are down. Evans will have to step into the fire -- thus will prove if he has any character to do the job. I wish him well and the team too - they deserve better than this - but ya gotta play the cards that are delt.

With the injury to Matt Shiltz, the Cats will be forced to go with Dane Evans in Week 13. Ever since his 2 Grey Cup performances Dane has suffered numerous injuries and lost his confidence. I think he will be cut before the season ends. The Hamilton Tiger Cats need to string some wins together in hopes of a playoff birth in this crazy East division 2022 season.
