Report: Elks to name Ed Hervey as general manager

I like that he is outspoken and not sugarcoating, for I generally loathe the latter and find those people to be generally more dishonest in life, but to be off-putting along these lines, well I agree that’s a terrible approach to a smoother, new road ahead after another chance.

Even so, as I stated in the team thread, I think it’s a situation in which the ends either will be justifying these means or not.

For all we know whatever the comprehensive view of the new owner, beyond the obvious that the owner would have to feel positive so as to even make such a decision, winning ends are all that might matter right now in at least getting the team back to the playoffs in 2025 to be on the right track.

Well good luck to your team. Obviously they think he can help them win.

So Hervey has indicated that he will have a conversation with Tre Ford. He wants to see if they’re all on the same page when it comes to the future of his career.

I think from what I’ve heard is that he wants to bring him back but he wants Ford to understand and accept that he isn’t guaranteed the Starting role, may need to be #2 for a while and that if Ford doesn’t like it then they’ll part ways.

I do believe the Elks will bring in a QB that is experienced and capable of leading the team better than how MBT did.

I don’t think that Ford was used correctly, too much put on him too soon. he is improving yes but he is not where a Good Starting QB in the CFL needs to be… Yet. if he can continue to improve and learn more of the finer points of a bonafide Starting CFL QB then he could be…

Again Hervey could just be saying things to not ruffle any feathers…

I guess we shall see when February comes and FA starts.

Not ruffling feathers??? Then why did he say the place was a joke?

Yup. As for Ford, there comes a time when he’s learned all he can on the bench.

And after watching Winnipeg in the Grey Cup, it would seem a pretty poor plan to not have a plug and play backup ready for any team.

anyone with any level of smarts knows there’s what you tell the Media and then there’s what you tell the players behind the door out of the prying eye.

Thank you. The substantive discussion on the CFL, after a whole lot of wasting time by Rod Pederson beyond the hockey talk, starts at about 3:35.

Hey Rod! You are not merely on local homer radio or local TV any more! GET TO IT!

The Elks discussion starts at about 5:30 and finishes at about 7:50. I agree with Dave Campbell’s summary.

We’ll see what GM Hervey decides, but in any case if retaining Ford, Ford has to compete for the job against whomever is brought in, but then just what quarterback wants to walk into this situation in Edmonton if Tre Ford stays? I can’t see many takers, and I don’t want somebody past their prime like MBT either.

The situation remains somewhat dicy one way or the other.

Any interest in Cody Fajardo?

I’d rather have Alexander come over and have two younger horses race so to speak, but that’s not happening.

Well, all I can say is take care of business quick.

Because Winnipeg will want a for real serious back up.
IF Harris retires, that’s another team looking for a QB.
IF Montreal wants to move on from Fajardo then where will he land?
Same for Ottawa, they will want some cap space for other guys - so Masoli - stay or go?
MBT is face down on the floor. Couldn’t cut the cheese with a great offence in Edmonton. Played from behind because his 3rd quarter was awful all year.

It’s why Calgary took care of business with VA so quickly…

Was he one the guys that got blamed for the Stamps dismal showing the past two seasons???

Kilam, 45, served on the Calgary Stampeders’ staff as an assistant head coach and special teams coordinator before being let go last month. He had been with the organization since 2005, winning three Grey Cups with the team over that span.

I am surprised he was not a head coach a few years back… Before the Stamps hit the dire straights

This guy is Canadian and grew up in Lethbridge, he coached Minor football on Alberta. He is the perfect choice.

Why, it’s the truth.

That may be but that’s irrelevant to my point. To answer your question, a position such as the one Hervey has requires some diplomacy. It’s not the same as sitting in a bar with your buddies.

It was a very “political” statement … it is common practice for Premiers / Prime Ministers / Presidents / Governors / Mayors / etc. to let everyone know the deficit is much higher, or surplus lower, than was claimed by their predecessor.

Also, everyone knows the Elks have been an absolute “tire fire” … the best way to build trust with the fanbase may well have been to honestly acknowledge it.
