TORONTO — It appears that Ed Hervey is headed back to Edmonton.
According to a report from TSN’s Farhan Lalji, Hervey has been hired by new team president and CEO Chris Morris to be the Elks’ next general manager. Hervey held the role in Edmonton from 2013-2016, designing the team that lifted the Grey Cup in 2015.
We finally got rid of him in Hamilton!!! His lack of spending on the D last off season is the main thing I blame for Hamilton having such a slow start this past season.
Hervey has no direct attachment to ANY of the QBs on the roster … it will be interesting to see who ends up HC and OC, and how that impacts the QB position going forward.
Won’t comment on whether Hervey is the right choice, but it is the right choice to have settled this now and give him time to “get to work”.
Yes you misread. He was responsible for withholding players pay in 2015, which broke contracts and sent half the team to Saskatchewan.
He was also the guy who got a new rule added when he signed a personal services contract with Mike Reilly in BC than only he and Reilly knew about and came due in 2020…while everyone was shut down for COVID.
What is their thinking here? From the outside, Hervey looks like a bad hire: no fresh buzz (a recycled GM), possibly toxic (the issues you mentioned), and no track record of excellence since his Edmonton days. Is this just a buddy thing?
Yeah, I didn’t like it either. Rumour has it Rick Campbell is going to be the HC. To be honest, I don’t like either of those moves. I hope they can keep Simon as Asst GM. He should be given credit for a lot of the CDN talent they have.
Personally I would have given the current HC & GM another year. They built the #1 ranked offence in the league, if you use the categories they use for rating the D (see STATS, Stats through Week 21 on the CFL site). Are they going to keep most of the pieces in place? One would hope so.
