Report: Brent Monson expected to be named Argos' defensive coordinator

TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts could have a new defensive coordinator soon.

TSN’s Dave Naylor reported on Tuesday that the Argos are expected to name former Calgary Stampeders defensive coordinator Brent Monson for the same position with the Double Blue.

The Stamp exodus to the Big Smoke continues. I like the move. :sunglasses:

Strange. It will be hard to improve on the defence results from Eiben and Fields. The Argos lost some great defenders after the 2023 season- Peters, Pickett, Hendrix and more- but the 2024 defence was superb at the end of the season and especially in the playoffs. It will be tough to keep them all in 2025.

Based on the Stamps Defence over the past two years, that seems like a step backward for the Argos.

A good Hamilton guy (almost) comes home. Good luck, Brent, from STM.

Co-coordinators was not ideal. The D came together at the end but it was a work in progress all year. Obviously Eiben and Fields have informed the team they don’t want a repeat so that’s that.

Well, my reasoning says IF as rumours have it, Kilam is front runner for the Edmonton HC position - I like where this is headed…

Fully agree. Hope rumours are correct. Have also heard that, unless he is the next HC in BC, Maksymic is likely headed to Elks (Jason Gregor). Let me throw another name out there. I would not be surprised if William Fields (Calgary connection with Kilam) ends up as the DC with Edmonton.

Should all this come to pass, I 'd say there would be a lot to get excited about. I really wasn’t enthused, as I mentioned before, about the prospect of Campbell going there. Fingers crossed Kilam is the next Elk HC. :grinning:

Like the other posters, I thought the Argos were set with their current co-ordinators but something was obviously amiss there. The secondary got burned a lot during the season because they lost their two best corners to the Ticats and Jets. They had rookies in there but I give them credit for adjusting and improving throughout the season and being outstanding in the Grey Cup when they had to be.
