Only Rider fans think Montreal was lucky to win the grey cup.
They didn't show up the first half, but that second half they were really good.
Calvillio marched his team to field goal position, it didn't even look like there was any defense.
That's what hall of fame quarterbacks do. Maybe a little credit for a clutch performance?
If you want to preach the class angle of it.
A little ribbin should not bother them. Had the Riders won we would have spent the whole winter hearing how they are building a dynasty and on and on…
16 point comeback in 10 minutes but it was all luck, on the final kick you clearly see Duval lift his head as flags are thrown and the mugging on Baggs would be interception what a heads up play.
You don’t come back from a 24-10 deficit in the fourth quarter while holding the other team to a series of two-and-outs without doing something right. Penalty or no penalty, we had to put ourselves in a position to win the game on Duval’s kick, an effort that involved a lot of hard work, calm under pressure, and many players coming up clutch time after time. Off the top of my head:
Calvillo for rallying in the second half.
Cobourne for being a monster on the ground and fighting for the TD that got us back into the game.
Carter for the two-point convert.
Cahoon with the TD that put us within two of the Riders.
Boulay for saving the game by recovering Bratton’s fumble.
Richardson for coming up huge on a couple of second and third-down situations where we absolutely had to convert in order to have a chance.
Watkins for making the catch that got us into field-goal range.
Bowman, Williams, Wilson, and Stewart for taking away the run and forcing the Riders into second and long, and for pressuring Durant into the INT.
Gerald Brown with the INT.
Chip Cox with the hellacious tackle on Bagg that forced the Riders to punt.
It was an incredibly hard-fought game, and acknowledging that my Als deserved to win gives credit to both teams.
My brother lives in Calgary. He says most of the people in southern Alberta were more excited at seeing Rider fans served a cooler full of STFU and crying all the way home than winning the GC the year before.
Exactly. They say the little things win games. A lot of people forget that play Etienne Boulay had on special teams to recover that fumble. Montreal was the better team that day and the better team all year. 17-3, with a debatable ending in BC and a no show in Winnipeg is a great season all around.
Rider fans in general are annoying. The fact they lost in the way they lost was great. Couldn’t happen to a "better (best) " fanbase.
Ah the irony.
That won’t stop cflisthebest to anoint rider fans as the greatest fans on the planet though.
Fear the 13th man.
On a side note, can you imagine the Riders winning 2 Grey Cups in 3 years? That would be hell.
Well of course not. There are no classes on the weekend. When they start again Tuesday morning, though, we’ll be learning how to count to 12. You’re welcome to sit in.
Well, I don’t want to tar all Rider fans with the same brush. A lot of them are great. But just as many are annoying as all hell. I think it’s the unrelenting insistence that the Riders are the center of the CFL univers that rankles. In an eight-team league, there is no center, and no periphery. Every team is equally important to the league’s continued good health.
Stop the BS. Most Rider fans know that Montreal was not lucky to win. Duval should have hit the kick in the first place. It's not as if it was that long.
You guys are perpetuating a stereotype of Rider fans saying their team can do no wrong. Yes those guys are out there cough cflisthebest cough cough, but most are not like that.
Montreal was certainly not lucky to win that game, they deserved it.
Personally I have been one to celebrate the achievements of my team as opposed to glorying in the demise of others. But hey whatever floats your boat.
hey, look. I am not saying that the Riders can do no wrong ok? I know they blew that game. They had opportunities through out that 2nd half that could have put this game in the bag and they failed to capitalize! I am well aware of this.
I know that this game was ours and we blew it.
It never should have come down to a field goal when you look at it.
I’m a Good fan, I’m a very hardcore Riders fan but I also am a Huge fan of this game! (hence my name).
the only team that I don’t like and have zero respect for is Edmonton. I’m not about to get into that again…
I love the CFL, I hate when things go wrong and I cannot stand fans that cut it down and make fun of us.
I have tonnes of respect for other fans and their teams (except Edmonton)
I believe the Riders will be just as good as last season, they’ll find the players to replace the ones they lost.
There are so many equally talented replacements out there.
Cheer on your own team and cut the negative shots at other teams. This thread is pure crap and is simply the product of a simple mind. Grow up!
Oh and as somebody eluded to, it is a far greater FU to mismanage your organization to the point where you lose your team, than what happened last November. Don’t forget that the second biggest city in the Country has to play in a bandbox stadium to pad their fan support.
I’m an Als’ fan, and I’ll readily concede that my team won the Grey Cup due to a large amount of luck.
The Als were dominant in the second half. They showed true character to fight back to where they were in a position to win the game and hence the Cup with a last play field goal.
But Duval missed it.
And there it would have ended, but for the Riders having too many men on the field.
So yes, luck played a part in the Als’ win, to the extent that you can call it lucky that the Riders had too many men on the field.
Duval said he lifted his head when the flags started flying but let’s say your right. Not making a play is one thing but the sheer stupidity of having 70 people on the sideline and not ONE realize there was too many of them out there is entirely different than a non call or a missed assignment.
Even if the Als lose on Canada day it wont put a ring on the 13th. Tribe
I agree with cflesksfan that this topic is pure garbage, and I agree with Sambo that HfxTC is just as bad as RLR. What's the point of dragging this stupidity up how many months after the Grey Cup? Give me a break. Like someone else said, this isn't really a win you want to thump your chest over. Be happy, sure, but don't gloat. If the Riders didn't have 13 men, the Als would've gone home heartbroken because their comeback failed. Show a little humility.
As far as the Saskatchewan fanbase is concerned, yes, cflisthebest gets a little annoying at times, but the fanbase as a whole is fine. And I think it's hilarious that we have Lions fans on here criticizing Riders fans. Wasn't too long ago when we had a whole whack of B.C. trolls acting like the Lions were the greatest thing to happen to the CFL.
I'll tell ya, I can't wait for the season to start, because this off-season is just getting brutal...
The point is that the league opener pits Montreal against Saskatchewan. Trash talking is permitted in the main forum and your moral judgment means nothing to me, this is fair game.
A win is a win, comes with a big trophy, big bonus and a big ring for the players of the winning team. I took the 2008 loss like a big boy and gave props to the Stamps.
ill take a.c. and his pinpoint surgical passing over durant anyday. durant is so fat he should play fullback, the als are a complete team and get the job done. The riders are a bunch of frauds, they try to act cool with their private message boards, and their secret neg list. Tillman tried to act cool by revealing the neg list to the fans to impress them, who cares if you had harrell on your list, he didn't even play a snap. holla.
