Reilly to start 1 week after suffering concussion. Thoughts?

The Esks have just announced that Mike Reilly will start today vs the Als, just one week after suffering a concussion.

Should the Esks rush Reilly back into the lineup this soon, or err on the side of caution and allow him to further convalesce?

your thoughts? please weigh in.

Behind that excuse of an offensive line?

I just lost whatever respect I had left for Kavis Reed as a head coach.

I'm torn on how to answer this.

On the one hand, I'm not a doctor. The Eskimos have doctors. They've looked at Reily. If they've done the proper tests and he shows as healthy, I'm really not in much of a position to tell them that they're wrong.

On the other hand, I've had concussion problems in my life. It's seriously bad stuff. If I were his coach, I'd force him to sit this game even if they tell me he's cleared to play.

I'm no expert either but I have suffered 2 'mild' concussions as a result of playing sports. In both cases, I was out cold for a few minutes and my short term memory was fried for the better part of a day. Both times, I was told not to play contact sports for 6 weeks. This was without any post concussion symptoms. I had no dizziness, vomiting or headaches.

Was this just added precaution for a civilian who doesn't earn a paycheque from playing sports? When we know about the catastrophic consequences later in life from repeated blows to the head, why do pro athletes seem to sometimes have immaculate recovery times?

I suppose we do have other examples. Where Reilly has been out less than a game, Calvillo has been out for the season thus far. Sidney Crosby missed huge time from his concussions too. Still, I think more often than not, players who are hit silly are back at it in short time.

That said, it is interesting to see how much things have changed. I was watching the 1991 East Division Final on Youtube and Rocket Ismail suffered a concussion in the game. The team doctor was interviewed on the telecast and reported that while Ismail couldn't remember the first half, there was no neurological damage and he would be good to go for the Grey Cup!

I think it is ridiculous. I don't believe for a second that this is his first one, or even second of the season.

That said, if he is legitimately good to go, go for it....I just know I have had them, and ignored them to participate in things. Players can fool a doctor pretty easily if the symptoms are mild and they really want to play.

I believe he is playing with fire, but at the same time, that is his choice. Good choice...unlikely, but his to make. He knows the potential consequences if he gets another one. The shame is that if he does many fans and media will ignore that he was playing too soon and tune in only to that safety is being overlooked, head shots, etc when he is putting himself in a situation where he is more vulnerable to them.

Come on, Ricky Foley once played without a spleen.

I dunno ... 3 games out of a x-over with 5 to go.

I know you're playing the team that you're chasing but 3-10, how far do you think you can go with that x-over spot? Come on, risk your future star QB's brain for a last ditch desperation attempt at a chance of a whiff of a slight possibility of heading east for one extra game this year in which you probably get slaughtered anyway?

I think I'd rather have the draft pick, especially after Ottawa takes one of my NIs.

Hell, I questioned putting him back in right after he took the hit to the head. I questioned putting him in last week. Yes, I question why they would take a chance that their franchise QB could be hit even worse considering their chances of making the play-offs are zero to none. I once had a lot of respect for Kavis Reed but this decision, no matter what Mike and the doctors say is simply wrong.
