Doug Brown indicated on his weekly radio show that a insider at CBC had told him that the Sask interception return for a touchdown was infact an incomplete pass as it had touched the ground before being intercepted. Did this missed call cost the Bombers the Grey Cup??
...IF ...that were the case then the challenge flag should have been thrown...Berry or the players closest to the play didn't seem to think it was a 'one hopper'...and i think a challenge would have been issued pretty quick if they thought the interception was bogus.... ?????
If you looked at the clip you will notice that it took place with 2:44 left in the second quarter. Brown seemed to indicate that teams cannot challenge with less then 3 minutes in a half, it is up the the officials upstairs to look at the play.
This isn't sour grapes and very well might not have had an impact on the game. However, that was 7 points in a 4 point game.
It points more to the incompetency of the leagues officials(both on the field and in the booth) then anything else.
In every game, there are many factors, for both teams, that contribute to a win or a loss.
The Riders won and in my opinion, that's all that counts.
As far as the replay goes, I hate relying on the booth to make the call in the last 3 minutes. There have been a couple times I have seen something that I thought should be reviewed and they did not. That is very frustrating.
Yes, but was it a blown call? Neither of the clips on this site shows the ball hitting the ground.
Tibears seems to be sayin that the reason the play was not challenged, is that it could not be challenged in the last 3 minutes of the first half, which is just plain untrue!
Regardless, isn't that what George Black is getting paid for in the booth. To look at these pivotal plays and make sure the onfield officials are getting the right calls. THAT'S HIS ONLY JOB DURING THE GAME!!!
Granted Berry should have challenged but I think we can agree that Berry's challenge decisions have never been very good. He seems to challenge anything he is unhappy with, not necessarily something that he thinks was called incorrectly.
However, regardless of whether a teams challenges, those off field officials are paid to do a job and evidently they didn't get it right on that play.
The CFL has a challenge system…Dont play the League or the refs if WPG didnt use it.
Besides…With 12 men on the field, 30 players on the bench + coaches and a crew upstairs in the booth…If no-one asked for a challenge…It must have been a good call.
One of the major problems I see with the challenge is that each team can only have two per game. With the officials we have they should each have five or six because right now the teams have to try to determine if this call is bad enough that they want to use a challenge because there may be another later on that they want to challenge more.
I'm in favour of penalizing teams that challenge and lose the challenge but limiting teams to two when there are so many blown calls in a game is just plain stupid.
Once again, SHOW ME ANY REPLAY THAT INDICATES THE BALL HIT THE GROUND!
Did any Peg players or coach indicate at the time that they thought the pass was incomplete?
What next? Dinwiddle was abducted by aliens who brainwashed him to throw interceptions? Why did not George Black catch this!!!
btw, you are the one that said Brown indicated that the reason the flag was not thrown was because it was against the rules. IT WAS NOT AGAINST THE RULES!
IF Brown said this and it was not just you making things up, then heck the Bombers deserve to lose if after two seasons with instant replay their players and staff do not know this clear cut rule!

Why should a defensive lineman know the rules regarding when and what is challengable??? Coaches absolutely but the players? Should he also know where the slotback lines ups on a particular play???
It was clear that Brown didn't know why the team didn't challenge only that he said there was absolute proof that the play was an incomplete pass.
Now you are saying he had absolute proof! Really! Ok, if you do not think that players should have a reasonable understanding of the rules, then what about the fact that I also mentioned the staff of the team? Are you saying the coaches do not know the rules!!!???
Once again I ask you to take a look at the two replays that you find on this site and show me where the ball hits the ground!
You are the one that said: Brown seemed to indicate that teams cannot challenge with less then 3 minutes in a half, it is up the the officials upstairs to look at the play.
Now you are saying " it was clear that Brown didn't know why..."
Wow I can't believe that people on here are blaming the refs for a blown call on the interception. Infact if it was trapped, there were also 12 players that were fooled and a wack TV and radio play by play announcers. The refs did a good job of officiating in all the playoff games this year. If this play would have been challenged it would have stood up as there was inconclusive evidence to overturn it. I've seen the video and it is impossible to tell if he had it or not. This play makes no difference now and the Riders are Grey Cup Champs. Time to move on.
Funny that none of the Bomber fans are complaining about the receiver who was offsides on the Armstrong TD Catch. So what if it was actually an incompletion, the two still cancel one another out and the Riders still win by 4.
Brown’s words we something to the effect, “I’m not sure why Coach Berry didn’t challenge maybe it had something to do the fact there was less then 3 minutes in the half.” Could this explain your apparent contradiction???
Please find anywhere where I say the Bombers would have definitely won the game if the officials had got the call right. I simnply said the officials screwed up. Brown was adament that his source at CBC indicated that if the off-field officials had looked at the replays (as they should have) the rling on the field would definitely had been overturned.
Maybe the league knows it was an incomplete pass and only shows the video highlights that don’t show the ball hitting the ground.
Anyway, Sask won the game with the incomplete pass and there is nothing anyone can do now. Except maybe fire George Black because he missed the play. (Hold on they just did that!!!)
