OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS announced on Tuesday they have signed American running back Jamal Morrow.
Jamal Morrow may be good but releasing Armstead-so that he can be picked up by another team- maybe in the Eastern conference -questionable !
There are discipline problems with Armstead. He got thrown out of one game and was very disruptive in their last game. Can’t have that in the dressing room.
Morrow will be good for the RB’s. They will be asking him to run between the tackles which saves on the wear and tear on him
Did not realize that Armstead had discipline problems. Too bad . sems like a telnted guy on the field.
He is. Unfortunately, once that goes on your resume - you are pretty much out of a job as no one wants to bring that into their dressing room.
Will not be surprised if he gets picked up.
I was aware of some discipline problems existing, but also wasn’t a big fan of Armstead in any event. Some nice runs for sure but a lot of lacklustre ones and he had little presence between the tackles. Morrow may not be any better but no great loss in the dime a dozen world of running backs where an outstanding one may spend 3 years with the same team.
what did Armstrong do that resulted in being released from the Ottawa RedBlacks roster? He was doing quite well right? did he upset someone on the coaching staff? get into a fight with teammates?
Armstrong? Ryquell Armstead RB. Took many penalties and often in arguments with players from other teams. Dissension on the team? Possibilities. I think that the Head Coach has had enough.
Richard
Yup. Tossed out of one game and players on his own team dragging him away from fights constantly. Plus raging on the bench and all that.
I respect Dyce even more now. It’s about the team - not one guy. They picked up Morrow who should be just fine since he will have a chance to run between the tackles for a change.
Here is each East team’s running back situation:
Toronto - K’deem Carey, Deonta McMahon, Danny O’Boy
Hamilton - James Butler, Greg Bell
Montreal - Walter Fletcher, Jeshrun Antwe
Safe to say there’s no immediate improvements in inserting Armstead to any of those teams.
West:
BC - William Stanback, David Mackie
Calgary - Dedrick Mills, Peyton Logan
Edmonton - Javon Leake, Kevin Brown, Justin Rankin
Sask - AJ Ouellette, Frankie Hickson
Winnipeg - Brady Oliveira, Jonny Augustine
Nope…no improvements here either. See ya later, Armstead.
Montreal also has Sean Thomas Erlington, but yes, I agree with your overall point. Not a big market for running backs right now. Maybe Sask takes a look if Ouellette continues to have injuries.
I was wondering what became of Morrow this year. I thought Sask had him ahead of Hickson last year. Too bad Armstead flamed out in Ottawa. He was the type of back teams look for as he could be a punishing runner. Difficult to get the complete packet in players at times and I guess Armstead was lacking in character or something.
Chad Kelly is still working. I think Armstead wil sign with someone.
From my understanding, Armstead had a very heated discussion with Dyce infront of team. Unfortunately this guy is a good running back with a very bad attitude. You can’t be challenging the coach and calling him names infront of the team. He was thrown out of one game already and even vs the Lions he was getting into it with opposing players. I’m sure he was warned by the coaches about his onfield antics and he chose not to take their advice.
So— sionara, adios, Arrivederci and don’t let the door hit you on the way out of town.
Morrow is a good running back and has a much better attitude.
To me - they have had their hands full with their other discipline issues, last thing Mace would want is a babysitting job…
Add to that, Morrow is a better back than he showed previously when he can run between the tackles. I look for him to show well - not be overpowering but to be the ground game Ottawa needs for balance.
Morrow’s a decent back , no doubt. I guess his wrist is OK now. There were some concerns in the off season.

Good decision to fire him now and bring in a fresh RB.
Ottawa is hurting now, looks like Dedmon is injured again and no Acklin, Addison, Pimpleton, Santos-Knox.
I can see a bad patch coming up for them until these guys come off the 6 game IR
Wrists are very complex joints - the most complex int the body perhaps. There are something like 7 bones in your wrist and sometimes - they take a while to heal.
Yes but it’s not like he’s a QB that has to throw a ball, he just has to tuck the thing in
