OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS have signed American quarterback Nick Arbuckle to a one-year contract extension, the team announced on Sunday. Arbuckle was set to become a free agent on February 14.
I'm kind of surprised by that one; I guess he is an insurance policy in case Masoli gets banged up again although I hope he doesn't.
What will they do with Evans who has pretty much evolved into a short yardage rushing QB? He got 16 TDs that way in 2022 vs 4 passing.
Not hugely surprised. Nobody is in a position to go after Evans really so they keep him as a development guy.
Arbuckle is a "ready to play" backup.
I have been surprised by the Redblacks though. They have obviously worked whatever plan they had for the offseason very well. I think they had the biggest list of free agents to start with and have just a handful left to sign.
I like Arbuckle. They definitely played better when he was in. Mostly.
