CFL deep thinkers are deathly afraid of a Canadian trained QB on their rosters. Especially in a situation like in Ottawa now (or Edmonton) - with injuries or poor play and the QB picture in disorder - then you would get local media or local yokel fans howling for the Canadian QB to get a shot. Easy way around that - don’t have them on the roster (or like Jones - who never would have looked at Tre Ford if he didn’t run a 4.4 forty - demote the guy to 4th string).
But why?
Pigrome and Dunniway have potential too and looked good in pre-season.
This idea that we have to give a break to a guy because he’s Canadian? that’s not right
I agree that Michael O’Connor should have been signed instead of Pigrome and Dunniway. He has experience playing the Canadian game and he has plenty of potential. I do not think that American QB’s are always better.
I made the comment as most taller qb’s have not learned to deal with Willie’s long reach. If 5 10 height is correct he will blend in better with the 5 7 back that a certain TiCat made fun of in the last game
Glen Suitor said on Tuesday that Michael O’Connor has moved on from football. Not sure if Suitor was speaking with authority or just assuming that is the case.
Why do we need to give a Canadian QB a chance? didn’t teams give him a chance over 3 seasons?
The Ottawa coaches don’t think that he’s as good as the two QBs that they have signed.
The coaches see these QBs everyday in practice. The Lions coach is a Canadian who chose a Canadian QB as their starter last year and he released O’Connor, and no other teams picked him up.
As sad as that is for me, that would make sense as I would have thought someone would have tried to sign him by now. A great talent who just didn’t get the opportunity.
Both B.C. and Calgary did not give him a chance. If he had no talent I could see it, but this guy was the most outstanding player in the Canadian University League from 2015 to 2018. Go to you tube and see his highlights.
But he is still not as good as the current backups. As was said above, the coaches see the QBs every day in practice and see them play in pre-season.
If O’Connor was better than the backups, they would’ve signed him to a new contract.
