Ranking the top pending free agent defenders

Ranking defenders who play a variety of different roles in a plethora of locations at multiple levels of their respective schemes is never easy, especially with, as of writing, 129 defenders from lineman, to linebacker, to defensive back still holding expiring contracts.

Surprised that a Ticat made this list. (Although several former Cats appear on it). A testament to the poor coaching of the now-departed DC. The Cats D did improve after Chris Jones came on board as the new DC. Same players, new schemes. A hopeful sign for 2025.

JULIAN HOWSARE Ranked # 11 ? Who is kidding who. In two years Howsare hasn’t done anything for the Stamps to even consider re-signing him. Average 5 sacks / year and 42 average DT. Hopefully they send him packing. He plays like a 43 year old man. Rose in those same 2 years averaged 8.5 sacks/year and average 22 DT . And that really isn’t good either

Yeah, there are some overvalued guys on that list. The top 4 are good but below that questionable…

Guys I question being on the list at all -
Lanier, Was a good lineman, spends a lot of time hurt, has not gotten better than he was his first year.
Roberson, Great back - when hes not hurt, which seems to be a lot of the year now.
Purifoy, After his outbursts about being passed over for awards who wants that attitude in their locker room (and he got passed over because he was the free safety on the defence that allowed the most net offence and passing yards this season)
Betts, showed nothing after coming back form Detroit.

And I will take a bet the Moxey will be moving on if Jones continues on in Hamilton. Jones has cut him a couple times in the past…

Wow, Montreal has a great defence and they only have one key player, (Ento) on the list. Let’s hope they can come up with a little better offence this year
