Ranking CFL stadiums

Winnipeg way …way better atmosphere than BC ,Cgy or Edm. It’s not even close. Edm is near the bottom, so far away from the field and no fan noise, funerals are louder.

If you are looking to stay in Ontario and make a weekend of it. Go to Ottawa. Great stadium, close to bars, plenty of sights to see in the capital.

If you are looking to drive, maybe spend a night and drive back, go to Hamilton. The in house atmosphere is a bit better then TD Place, but your post and pre game will either be a nearby dive bar or require a DD for a good bar. Plus it will be your shortest trip. Ottawa is a good five hours from Hamilton depending on traffic. From Windsor it's probably 8 or so.

As far as TO, I'd stay away. You'll get gouged on parking, traffic is awful, the dome is a morgue, and the food prices of all the surrounding bars is outrageous. There are many perfectly good reasons the Argos are moving to BMO.

Just to clarify...
If you don't know where to park near Rogers Centre, you may pay a high price ($22) - but not as high as parking at BMO Field ($30. Keep this in mind for next season!).

If I'm up for a 15 minute walk, I can pay $5 for parking.
If I want a shorter 5 minute walk, I currently pay either $12 or $15.
Hardly gouging.

Btw, the move to BMO Field next season addresses only one of the criticisms above.
Parking is more expensive, traffic is the same, food prices are the same.
The viewing and hopefully atmosphere will be much better.

We went to the first game at the new stadium in Ottawa and we were not that impressed, nothing wrong with it (aside from literally having to step over the cup holders because they’re on the floor) but it’s pretty basic. I don’t say how you can say that it’s definitely number 1 in the East when it’s pretty similar to Hamilton.

As to the Rogers Centre it’s definitely a baseball stadium first so the sight lines aren’t the greatest for football but it’s still the most technologically advanced stadium in the CFL. It also has the best video board and a hotel in the stadium.

The OPs question was about a CFL road trip and which stadium was the best when you include not only the stadium itself but the proximity to restaurants and bars. Sounds like you haven’t been to Ottawa this year but they have built restaurants and bars next to the stadium where the old parking lot used to be.
I didn’t include the RC because he was asking about CFL stadiums, and you stated yourself that you don’t think the RC is a good football stadium. As for the video board, it may not be as big as the Rogers Centre but it’s much clearer it is one of the new HD high pixel boards, no not as big a the RC since it’s built for a 24k stadium. THF is a nice stadium but the OP was asking about not only the stadium itself but bars and restaurants and there is nothing around THF.

So when you add up the stadium itself for watching CFL football with fantastic sight lines no “obstructions” and include the bars and restaurants next to the stadium, it would have to be TD Place.

Theres city lots near lamport stadium, 5 minute walk from BMO where you can park for $9. Not expensive at all. Thats where I park when I go to BMO. Take the GO train tunnel under the Exhibition Stadium.

There are more bars, restaurants and attractions around the Rogers Centre than at TD Place. It’s not even close. The Video Board at the Rogers Centre is HD. Yes TD Place has a better atmosphere as 24000 people in a 24000 seat stadium is better than 24000 people in a 50000 seat stadium. However there is a Lot more to do in Toronto than in Ottawa.

Thanks for the tip!
I will look it up.

:?

Um, not really. Ottawa is hardly some backwoods town. There is more than enough to do in Ottawa. Add in that, according to people who have been to both, the stadium is a million times better in Ottawa, the choice to go to the nation’s capital is probably the best one.

No it’s not a backwoods town. I never said that it was. I’ve been there many times and it doesn’t even remotely compare to Toronto.

The stadium is not better in Ottawa, much like Hamilton it’s pretty basic. The atmosphere is better because the stadium is full. Just like the atmosphere is better at the Rogers Centre when it’s full like it was for Grey Cup 2012. Also the Rogers Centre has the benefit of the only fully retractable roof in the CFL, that doesn’t leak.

It's odd to see someone arguing for going to a game at Rogers Centre over TD place. I guess one bonus at Rogers centre is that you could have a nap in relative peace and quiet. You could probably sprawl out and take up like 4 seats too in doing so.

Very odd when you consider that Argo fans have been complaining for years that the biggest problem is the RC. They finally get the move to BMO and some are criticizing BMO and some talking about how great the RC is…

Show me where I said that. I said that the atmosphere is better in Ottawa but the actual stadium is better in Toronto and Toronto is a better city to visit as there is much more to do.

Rogers Centre is a better stadium sure. But its way too big and dead atmosphere. I'd rather have gone to Ivor Wynne than Rogers Centre to watch the game. I go to the games for the atmoshpehere.

THF - looked pretty good last night, even in the rain and winds.
Glad to see the old school gone - some great views south until the storm blew in

The Video Board looks wider than the one in Ottawa but not as tall

Only been to Mosaic and IGF. Had been to old Ivor Wynne and Canad Inns.

Our stadium is nice, but the area is such a black hole for fun that I myself even go to less games now.

Which stadium are you referring to when you say “our stadium”?

I think he means THF in Hamilton - the area around the stadium is a black hole

I think he means IGF in Winnipeg- Our stadium is nice (meaning IGF ). He doesn’t even mention THF in his post. My guess is that…
“cutchemist43” is a Bomber fan and not a Cat fan.

Haha that was dumb of me, I live in Winnipeg so meant IGF. Its a brutal location in terms of being a fun stadium for after the game. You basically go there and leave, and are stuck with an awkward 60-90ish minutes of travel. I used to go to 8 games at the old location annually, but my games per year have dropped to 4 now.
