question for mr.president

dear mr. mitchell, how will you justify to mr.young that you have a $500,000 backup quarterback?
it makes absolutely no football sense to put him back in there with #17 playing the way he is.good luck with that one.while you are at it, think about retaining mr.caulley at the end of the season and cut your losses with the hamilton hottie.

richie williams backer

Can we get to say, 4-5 first? LMAO

I don't have a problem starting Williams if he remains hot. That being said, it's a little early to play Kreskin re this group. Seriously.

Oski Wee Wee,

Pratically every team wanted printers, even the Argo's who were quietly told to back off and let Hamilton have him.

dear oski oui-oui. the reality is that casey even getting hot is the bigger concern more so than richie getting into a slump.i'll take my chances with richie cuz casey is nowhere near where he should be after a full training camp.they play wpg next don't they?they're no better.what happens if casey is healthy enough for that game? are you really gonna play him after tonight?

just wondering,
city legend

YES!.. he IS the starting QB, Williams is doing his job tonight as the BACKUP QB!!

Nuff said!!

Casey is the starter, no question...but if he fails to do something, he will be pulled at halftime

Printers starts if he is healthy.

I agree. Richie has done a great job. But that is his job as a back up - to come in and do the job when called upon. Casey starts when he's healthy. Sure, if he doesn't get the job done you can always bring in the back up. If it becomes a habit where he has to continually be pulled, then you think about making the permanent change. How many times has it been said, you don't lose your position to an injury. Same goes for Jesse. I love Caulley - I'm a big fan of his but Jesse is the starting tailback when he returns.

Whats wrong with a two QB system? Edmonton won for years and years with this approach!

I would start Printers next game he's healthy. If Williams continues to impress and can pull more wins off, then yes, there would be a QB controversy. As it is, Williams has his first win as a starter this year. I get the enthusiasm, but the parade route should only be mapped out after a few more wins if at all.

There is a depth chart logic at the QB position that has a higher test before you start hooking people on a permanent basis. Casey had one bad game in Calgary where his performance was as bad if not more than his supporting cast. Tonight, the O-line and running back pass protection was excellent and receivers were able to get separation -- and Williams delivered. Until I see that Printers is holding back the team when he's out there, I don't agree with demoting him. He simply hasn't blown many starts to warrant that -- it's not a Maasian situation.

half: this is old school thinking at its worst. Williams starts the next game and stays in until he needs to be replaced. You don't deliberately sabotage a winning performance like tonight for the tired old football cliche that you espouse.
We finally have the chemistry that some folks have been waiting for. It took a different combination of players to come up with some instant chemistry.

We finally looked like a team tonight.
Lets not screw it up!

You hit the nail right on the head...mr62cats.

russ: "depth chart logic"???
I prefer "win column logic".
So I say start Ritchie next game. He does not need to be crowned as the #1 QB.And maybe Casey won't be ready to play anyway. If Ritchie continues to move the ball as he did tonight and come up with a win then its definately time to re-assess things.

We won our second game against the Argos. The last game we won against the Argos just as convincingly with Printers and Lumsden. Richie and Caulley had great games but I can't imagine what the score would have been with Lumsden and Printers in there. And just to remind everyone, we were tied going into the second half. Although we played well, Toronto handed that game to us with fumbles and interceptions and there was a time in the 3rd quarter when I didn't think we were going to pull it off because we could not take advantage of all the gifts we were given. The final score didn't really reflect the entire game.

tcfan: I agree its a concern that the only team we can beat is the Blue team.
But I don’t think the first win was any more convincing. We only put 32 points on the board with no passing TD’s the first time versus 45 points tonight. Maybe the fumbles and interceptions by the Blue team tonight were because of an improved defence. I’d say a big part tonight’s win was because we had a sharper offence…which got stronger in the second half for a change.

It was great to see an entertaining game. Williams did play well, but before the euphoria gets too big remember that the game COULD have gone the other way. Two Toronto offside penalties cancelled both a fumble and an interception: both at mid-field. The game could have swung completely around without the penalties. I'm not raining on the parade, but lets have a dose of reality.

Yes and how many fumbles that we DID comit this season did go the other way and resulted in us losing ??

We caused them to comit these penalties because they wanted to get pressure on us and they couldnt !!!

Fair enough, I just don't think we should get too carried away with this win. Toronto turnovers played a big role in this game. I think the pressure our D put on Joseph played a big role in it but we can't count on this every game. But I do think that if we can play this way every game, we will have lots more wins down the road. I can only imagine if Lumsden was in the game. Can we not have Lumsden and Caulley in the backfield on a regular basis???
