NIAGARA FALLS, ONT. – Winnipeg is proud to call Brady Oliveira one of its own.
A total class act, very deserving of this award… not only does he give 100% to his team he gives 100% to his community as well…couldn’t be any more proud of our homegrown Winnipeger…Congratulations Brady!
He should’ve also won MOP over Manson Lamps Kelly .
Oliveira is a beast and well deserving of the honour . Go Bombers !
I don’t disagree with that… He will probably use it to fuel himself to be even better on Sunday…
Congratulations, Brady! Onwards and upwards, young man!
Congratulations, Brady, to a class act. I hope you were able to embrace the evening despite the erroneous voting for MOP. You play your heart out on Sunday, and earn the Grey Cup’s MOC and MOP like Andrew did before. You make every Manitoban proud.
Ways in which is humans do not even know. I feed the birds to make them happy and it seems it has a rewarding attribute in my life beside the satisfaction of helping God’s creatures…
A most deserving award for an amazing human being. A role model for others in football and life.
Yeah, this was well-deserved (and really should have been unanimous), but he also deserved MOP. I knew he wouldn’t get it - for some reason, people don’t get that it’s called “Most Outstanding Player,” not “Most Valuable Player” or “Most Outstanding Quarterback” (although the voting was closer than I thought it would be). And sure, the QB is usually the most important player on a team, and if they’re really good, they’ll be the most valuable player on that team. But to be outstanding, you have to distinguish yourself from your peers, and frankly, Kelly did not do this. He wasn’t even the best QB this year, with VAJ and Collaros surpassing him. Moreover, using his W/L record (which is, frankly, the ONLY stat where Kelly outshone every other QB) as a point in his favour ignores the fact that football is a team game, and Toronto won games this year in which their offense was decidedly lacklustre…but their defense came up big.
On the other hand, Brady O. did distinguish himself from his peers in a myriad of ways. He WAS the best RB (by a country mile) and had one of the best rushing seasons ever, in the CFL’s long history. Furthermore, he was instrumental in the application of Winnipeg’s strategy this year - get a lead and proceed to run the ball down their opponents’ throats, keeping the clock moving, and preventing the opponent from being able to put their offense back on the field. It is also notable that he outshone every season Andrew Harris, who had the benefit of one of the best offensive lines in CFL history, ever had in Winnipeg. Indeed, that vaunted offensive line took several steps backwards this year (key players got traded or injured, and the natural aging process caused a couple to get noticeably worse at their job), and yet Brady IMPROVED dramatically from last year to this one, showing that he is the architect of the success of the Bombers’ running game. Moreover, Collaros had himself more than a couple bad or mediocre games this season, but he still came away with W’s in most of them, largely because Brady came through. It is Brady that was the key to Winnipeg’s league-leading offense this year, and I think that makes him the most outstanding player (Chad Kelly is at most, 4th or 5th-most outstanding).
Should have been Dequoy IMO
Two excellent options, but offence trumps defence pretty much every time.
Dequoy had a great year no doubt about it but Oliveira had a greater year . Dequoy will in my estimation have an MOC or two in his future and that I have no doubt about .
I guess similarly to QB trumps RB, maybe time to add a category MOQ.
Yes he did, but Oliveria depends on others, the Oline.
Put him behind a bad line, is he still as successful?
Maybe, but Prob not
Dequoy is on his own, To me his accomplishment are his alone
3 pic6s 4 if you count the one taken away by a BS flag in BC!
5 forced fumbles!
To me that is him alone
The entire process is flawed IMO
Perfect example is TSN 50 top CFL players
How can you honestly justify that Player A is a better QB than Player B is a receiver or Player C is a DB
They are all different…it really is comparing apples to sandwiches
I would honestly like to see the league adapt and split the MOC award into two categories . One for Most Outstanding Offensive and one for Most Outstanding Defensive player . It would also be nice if they did the same for MOR .
100 %, that’s why nobody takes or should take any of this fluffing seriously, just like any / all awards show, and all can be said about winning and losing most games… usually comes down to a few good/lucky plays… except for BC when they have a “Lucky” play it’s usually a good one. Lol
When Andrew Harris went to the Argos I wondered if Oliveira would be able to put up some Harris-like numbers. He did so quickly, and now he’ll have a whole league trying to stop him. Here’s hoping he is up to it, and I expect he will be.
KInda proves my point about the line don’t you think?
