I too can live with Meyer. He did a great job transitioning the O-line from man-blocking to zone blocking in one season.

He tweeted it and RDS now also has it on their website.

Have been told #Als will promote OL coach Pat Meyer to OC.

Thanks, sheldon.
So now it’s a question of finding a new QB coach and a new DL coach. (I assume Meyer will continue to coach the O-line in addition to being OC)
Looks like I was right to change my pick in the poll.
Congratulations to him. Nice to see staff promoted from within. Good luck to Coach Meyer.

same here. that probably increases the likelihood that AC will return unless he becomes QB coach.
congrats to the 3 posters who picked him.
Wow, Cortez gone and Obie too! This certainly changes the landscape in the East. If Meyer bolts to the States, we should definitely contact Doug Berry. Not only would he be a good fit as OC, but he's been our O-line coach before too.
Wow is right, there had to be some major disconnect between Cortez and Scott Mitchell and/or Bob Young for this to happen after one season.
And if the Tiger-Cats go hard after Chris Jones it really rattles things in the East.
Here’s what I think will happen:
Andy Bischoff will become the new offensive coordinator. He’ll keep the RB coach portfolio but cede his admin assistant position to someone else (Pat Meyer?).
Trestman will hire a QB coach to replace Brady, probably someone we’ve never heard of.
I think Bischoff will get the job as OC but the guy you may have never heard of may be a new special teams coach. Some new blood, someone young and passionate with coaching aspirations that will just coach the special teams and take pride in his Unit and turn the special teams problems around. It does not seem like Montreal takes to much stock in special teams and Bischoff got the duty as an after thought to go along with his many other duties.
A new young guy will come cheap and will be looking to prove himself and their ST have no where to go but up.

That organization makes me laugh so much.
I hope Meyer doesn't bolt. We just spent the past year transitioning from man-blocking to zone-blocking; it would be an adjustment if the line suddenly had to go back to the old style and/or adapt to a new coach's ideas. The CFL REALLY needs to impose a time limit on coaches looking for other work in the offseason. If Meyer still hasn't decided by January, that is unacceptable to me. I also despise coaches using the CFL as leverage and then bolting back south as soon as they get a job.
Understood, d&p, but until and unless (likely not in my lifetime!) the CFL is capable of drawing thousands of fans, getting lucrative advertising deals from sponsors, getting fabulous TV revenue and coverage (analagous to the NHL), we will continue to face the prospect of American players and coaches bolting to the South.
I know I sound like a broken record on this one, but wish I didn't have to. The CFL is a great product and offers highly entertaining football, but it's very hard/impossible to recruit, promote, and retain top-flight players and coaches and provide them with NFL-like salaries and contracts. In that regard, the CFL simply can't compete.
So, a player or coach cannot be blamed entirely for seeking other opportunities to further a career with the NFL. I sincerely hope that football can catch on here in Canada, so that we could look to expansion, build bigger stadia that are always packed, have better contracts, create a solid base of fans... That is my hope, but until that happens, the NFL "sword of Damocles" will continue to hover over our head.
I don't begrudge coaches the chance to go south, but I don't like it when they show no respect for our league in terms of their decision-making process and timing. Tibesar is a perfect example, guy stepped into a DC position here then fled the following year LATE in the offseason, leaving us little time to find a replacement. This isn't like players, who have a short window of time to try the NFL. These are coaches disrespecting the CFL, leveraging opportunities here then flying the coop, leaving Trestman in the lurch. Look at Himebauch hosing Milanovich -- he took an OC job in Toronto and immediately dropped it to go south. That should be prohibited in coaching contracts going forward. The understanding should be: if you sign a contract, you can't look for work until the following offseason, and during that offseason, you have until the end of the December to find work. If you haven't, you must fulfill your CFL contract for another full season.
We're not running a flag football league here, this is a pro league with business concerns.

This one and done with assistant coaches is related to Marc Trestman`s penchant for signing younger, non-CFL experienced assistants. Assistants with CFL background/experience tend to stick around.
I find Alouette assistants leaving after one year totally unacceptable. If Trestman interviews an assistant and he has confidence in him, then sign him for 2 years with the understanding there is no escape clause. And if he doesnt feel confident enough to commit to him for 2 years, then don
t hire him.
I think the most underated component of a successful team are its assistant coaches, and the Alouettes can`t keep flipping them every year.
Now is left to see who he will be coaching. Have to say I've regained some admiration for Herb. Sports journalism can be such a waiting game, he can't be too pleased with not knowing AC's status yet. My guess is if AC does retire they will wait until they know who their number one QB will be before announcing it. A better approach than Hamilton who just fires their coach first then goes searching, now 2 years in a row. At least when the als announce a release they quickly find a replacement.
. . . and we'd better find a new offensive coordinator quickly, because we'll be in competition for one with Hamilton, who also need a new offensive coordinator (and a GM, and a head coach, and a defensive coordinator, and, perhaps most importantly, a clue).

Well we found our co-ordinator much faster than Hamilton will find a clue. Not sure what pictures Scott Mitchell has of Bob Young.
Its Pat Meyer afterall and for continuity sakes, particularly for the O-line, it
s good news.
And can I throw out Jim Daley as a potential Als special teams coach? He`s experienced and always seems passionate on the sidelines.
Great news! Pat Meyer the new Offensive Coordinator; he will remain the Offensive Line Coach.
Given that their will be 1 less coach, I wonder if the Als will add a Defensive Backs Coach or a QB Coach;personnally, I would rather add a DBs Coach,so that Noêt Thorpe would only be the Defensive Coordinator.
Time will tell.
