Pre-season A game Montreal vs Hamilton 06/14

Lavoie did miss that block but if I remeber that drive right they went double TEs with two true TEs in Lavoi and Delahunt in which they ran the ball well. Tries a lil out to Delahunt was a bit behind himbut still a good play call then came back with 5 wide and a TD was thrown.
drafting both Laovie and Delahunt and having an unsigned draft pick who starred in Lacross and football in the NCAA could appear soon after a little rest. With it now being a 6 game IR if he does decide to sign early when the season starts could spend 6 games on the IR and be ready to go.
I dont think he is part of the Canadian National Lacrosse team but could be an alternate and a possible reason he has not signed.
Walker looked pretty good in limited time. Redblacks will have troube covering and receivers also will need to be sorted through. So a lot of double TE could be their call of the year for them.

Ameet pall at MLB, they are wasting this kid. let him play !

Do you mean try him there or that they were trying him there and that is a waste?

I thought the same thing. He is a former first round draft pick. His odd body shape is said to be the reason he does not make a good fit at the pre level for DE. So that leaves him as a potential Teams starter or give him a shot at MLB. He has the exact same size 6'0" 245 as the front runner Bear Woods. So why not give him a shot as he enters his 3rd season it is about the time where a lot of players begin to have the game slow down for them in the pros

For me having Higgins as the ST coach as oppose to a dedicated ST coach would be a place to start.
And with Dinwiddie as the OC now, how much quality time can Higgins really spend on ST?

Heard a bit of the third quarter and at one point Als were up 20-7. Then several completed passes by Cats with Als D backs several yards off from their receivers. Not having seen the plays, had me wondering what was going on.

Als moved the ball yes and put up 23. Cats managed 28, 21 coming midway through the third and throughout the balance of the game.

Masoli seems to be overlooked everywhere he goes but has always been successful whenever he was in the line up and this pre season game was no different. Transferring from Oregon to Ole Miss and having back to back great seasons at QB is no easty task. his chekered past kept the NFL away but was successful in the UFL's short stint. Spent 2012 in Edmonton as the number 4 QB. He was one of the first players that Austin went after when hired in Hamilton. In his only game last year was very successful with the package that was put in.
Although it was just a pre season game looked very comfortable out there using a package of place that suit his abilities. Couls carve a niche out for himself as a reliable and flexible back up QB. With the raise in the Salary cap I think that s0omeofthat money will go towards some better pay for a back up QB, so the timing could be perfect for him.

Unfortunately Pascal Baillargeon suffered a knee injury and was on crutches after the game.

The number one purpose of the CFL pre-season games is to evaluate talent; it is always difficult to judge a player when roughly 70 players dress for each team. Player A may have done extremely well compared to Player B, but Player B played against the best of the other team, whereas player A played against the worse or players of the other team that won't be there once the regular season begins. Listening to the game on radian,I include my comments:

  • As we all know, there will be concerns should Troy Smith be injured for a long time during the regular season.Despite his 70% pass completions, I was not impressed by Alex Brink. He was intercepted once and fumbled once. He is definitely not a number 1 or even number 2 QB; at best, number 3. I was more impressed by Collin Klein; personally, I would rather start the regular season with him number 3 than with Brink number 3.

-There seems to be very good rookiee/first year player at DB position.Chris Smith and Jamaan Webb could/should make the team; Brandon Driver is another possibility. While Webb played also well on special teams, he also had 2 major penalties; a 15 yard roughing and a 35 yard pass interference penalty; instead of punting from the Als 50 yard line, the ball was on the Als 15 yards line, after that penalty, and they scored their second TD to go ahead. On this drive, the Tiger-Cats started from their 5 yard line and went on to score, thanks mainly to Bakari Grant reception of 39 yards and Webb 35 yard penalty. Long drives = bad memories of last season.

-The Tiger-Cats return game was very well contained. The Als special team players forced a fumble and limited the Tiger-Cats to 20 yards on 3 punt returns and 70 yards on 4 kick returns. Mind you,the Als were AWFUL on their punt returns,i.e. 12 yards on 6 returns.Brandon Rutley lost 6 yards on 2 returns. Most probably,he will be released today.Sean Whyte had a punting average of 45.5 yards with longest 53 yards; Delbert Alvarado had an average of 40.6 with longest 50.

  • From what I heard on radio, Diamond Ferri was outplayed when he was on defence,at beginning of game. I can't imagine that the Als will be so desperate that they will have to keep him,at beginning of season.

-Pascal Baillargeon was seriously injured; on crutches after the game. Should/will go on long term injured list.

Now come the more difficult tasks for Jim Popp,Tom Higgins and all coaches; hence, in the next 6 days, roughly 30 players will have to be released; up to 10 of these players will be added to the practice roster.Today, approximately 10 players have to be released; these players should come amongst these players:

-RB Brandon Rutley.

-2 amongst OL Daniel Baldridge,Ryan Cave,Mike Golic and Wayne Tribue.

-2 amongst WRs Ismael Bamba, Jheramie Boyd and Brandan Green.

  • 1 amongst DL Brian Britkowski and Scott Paxson.

-1 or 2 amongst LBs Diamond Ferri-more probable next saturday- and Bryn Roy and DBs Michael Carter and Mitchell White.

With the injury to Pascal Baillargeon, Jake Piotrowski and Ryan While could/should be on active roster, once the regular season begins.

Looking forward to the next pre-season game against the REDBLACKS.

Richard

The Als have added Pascal Baillargeon to the 6 game injured list.

They have released:
WR Ismael Bamba
WR Jheraine Boyd
RB Robert Godhigh
DE C.J. James
LB Stephon Robertson
QB Collin Klein Quite a surprise to me. Only 3 QBs in camp. Will they bring another QB?

The Als write that they will make four more transactions before 11:59 on sunday night.

Richard

Maybe they convinced Vince Young to come and spend a couple weeks for a look and see. I’m surprised they gave up so quick on Klein. Marsh has had a tough camp. Brink just got here… They also have Bo Cordell they gave a contract to.

Any highlights available? None on the main website, for some reason.

Not very much unless you enjoy Als QBs throwing interceptions.:

They may have given him a contract but he isn’t on the roster. Maybe he will be a post graining camp addition to the practice roster.

Given that Troy Smith is not 100% healthy, I can't imagine that they are going with only 3 QBs. Bo Cordell could be closer to training camp.

With regards to LBs, has Kyler Elsworth decided to accept the Als offer?

We may have our answers later on tonight or tomorrow.

Richard

Yeah, seems like a head-scratcher to release Klein with Smith still injured. Not sure what to make of that but I'm just going to hope they know what they're doing.

Very concerning to see our return teams do so poorly. I wasn't expecting brilliance, but 6 returns for 12 yards? That's absolutely brutal.

Its more likely that Klein cut the Alouettes, wouldnt accept spending the season on the practice roster to develop.

Besides Cordell, there were also Tanner Price and Tyler Tettleton at rookie camp, but if any of these guys are added they would only be projects in any case.

Right now its Troy Smith or bust. Marsh and Brink certainly dont look like the answer from Saturday`s game.

How is Michael Carter looking. After his rookie season has had 2 solid seasons able to play some CB as well as teams. Does he have another gear to get to be a starter quality. Even if not sustaining the versatilty to be a National can play CB when needed and do a solid job of it as well as being a teams player of course

Would not be surprised if Michael Carter is released, before regular season begins. In the last games of the 2013 season,he was a healthy scratch. The play of Andrew Lue may dictate his fate.
