but there is one big hidden negative factor not mentioned
tigercats are not only weak in field goals, but just as weak in punting game
Fleming near bottom of league in 'net' (if not for drastically overrated, bottom feeding McCallum's punting, ticats would be last) - fleming is even lower than two imports not now in league
punting can be critical to winning - take last game for example - 22-23 (little things get big)- ticats get outpunted by average of 10 yards a punt
last two punt exchanges - ticats lost 13 and 15 yards to stamps' field position after each team punted
if you just equal this exchange yardage by ticats, then stamps are either not in position to kick field goal at all or it would be 55 yards or better (result would most likely be a TICAT WIN, rather than a loss and 0-3 record)
since Oz, ticats have trotted out (and tried to sell to fans) more mediocre kickers and punters than you can stack in their stadium -the reason (some say lame excuse) given is that they are Canadian (and ticats want to do what they think other teams do - even if they lose doing it)
ticats need to bring in two imports to do these jobs and make this 1/3 of game competitive enough to win - they can both make an immediate impact (while repairing a defense or offense can take months or years)
cut two import players who are not contributing that much to offense or defense to open up the slots - they cant make as much positive impact on the team even if they are playing fulltime (much less on occasion), as compared to what two good kicker/punters could make immediately - this is not rocket science for a forward thinking front office & staff that wants to win in this years CFL -
is this about winning games or losing for the sake of 'ratios' and doing what's been done in the past?
If the entire team, defense and offence seems to be hanging on the fortunes of the kickers as seems to be the case (if you go by comments on these forums), I'd be hiring a kicking coach (full time) to help our kickers stay on track......Both Fleming and Boreham are talented and maybe just need a specific coach who is experienced at these positions to answer to all the time similar to every other player on the team....
Hiring a qualified and proven kicking coach would be 'job one' on my -to do- list right now.
