grass is a thing of the past, and the turf they use now is better, any player will tell you, and let’s face it, it’s them how really have the say in the matter.
Funny how it takes the smallest CFL province population wise to get this stadium thing kick started.
They will have the jewel of CFL stadiums in my opinion.
Hopefully Ottawa, which if I'm correct has as many people as Saskatchewan province does, can finally get off their butts and do something.
Then the people of Winnipeg wake up.
Hamilton is gauranteed theirs. Montreal is renovating. BC gets a retractable roof.
Then maybe Quebec City and Moncton can get something going.
And before you know it the CFL has finally come into the 21st century.
Winnipeg will get a new stadium no matter what, only the folding of the bombers would stop that, and that’s not gonna happen with an interested owner bent on buying and fixing the team, in the wings.
Players want the field turf (w/e it’s called now), its better to play on. Grass is hard to fall on, it’s also I have heard harder to run on, and if it rains, it turns into a quagmire. Fun to watch, not fun to play in. Let’s let them decide what is best because after all they are the ones that play the game for our entertainment, that’s all I’m gonna say on the matter.
After attending a game there, which was the 2008 Grey Cup in which I was honored to be apart of the 66,308 people that were there (blowing the NFL’s reported 52,000ish attendance out of the water), I can say the stadium is not bad, It could use a little bit of fixing, and maybe making the temporary seats they had become permanent seats, but other than that it was a good dome stadium, and a landmark.
and there was muggy but ok air in there, which was all sucked out at the end when Montreal lost.
I don’t know why I wasn’t able to finish my editing of the last post.
Field Turf is rolled on over a concrete pad, just like the old astroturf. It is an improvement, but in no way as soft or as forgiving as natural grass.
I completely agree that grass is way more forgiving on the body. But field turf is faster, especially for Db’s coming out of back pedals, any break on a route or ball. For an offensive player, it’s pretty much the same cause they generally know where they are running, they aren’t taking unplanned steps. A defender though is more reactionary and in my opinion slips more then the offense. I would like to see somebody actually check stats on interceptions and break ups on field turf vs grass. I’m not going to, but maybe kanga wants to. From my own fairly limited experience I find field turf hurts my body more then grass, but I am also not in pro football shape. But I do find my cuts and breaks are faster on field turf.
I really hope that Regina gets the domed stadoum. Last year the CIS final game in Saskatoon was a disaster! The temperature was extremely cold and the wind was wild. I Regina gets a roof, the CiS final would be a good bet and, late season games there would be more bearable. I gather that Sask’s economy is really moving well- unlike Ontario which is now a have not economic place to live. Regina deserves an A-1 stadium and, the economy would support this. Us eastern have - nots feel really good at the growth and develpment of Sask. The city deserves a first class stadium.
Yeah yeah yeah. I know it’s “in” to have field turf in football right now. But give it a few years and everyone will be back on the real grass wagon. lol
I find it interesting that in the past few years Baseball and Football are moving in the completly opposite directions with that…do you realize that there are only 2 teams in MLB with field turf? (Tampa and Toronto)
Again, few years down the road grass will make a comeback…and I will be a happy man.
I know to what EastVanMark is referring… it was two years ago. It was so cold that one of the footballs (leather/vinyl) broke in half on a punt (or something like that).
Grass is by far the best surface but what some might forget is that field turf has 3/4" granular rubber and/or sand infill on a 1" - 1 1/2" plastic grass blade on top of an optional 1" foam pad. So it is by no means the worn carpet over concrete of yesteryear.
I can't believe someone actually thought astroturf was a good idea and so many professional teams adopted it for one of the most violent sports on the planet.
Imagine having your head rung off a 1/4" rug on top of concrete or sliding on a surface as abrasive as iron wool...
