This article in the Edmonton Journal notes a number of possible changes to the Edmonton Eskimos' roster in 2009:http://www.canada.com/edmontonjournal/n ... b749ae620e
Living in Edmonton I can say for certainty, there are A LOT of people here who would be extremely happy if Maciocia were no longer the HC.
Yes he won the Grey Cup in his first year as HC but the general consensus is that was Higgins' team he won it with. Then the Eskimos missed the playoffs the next two years with Maciocia in charge. This year they placed fourth in the West and only made the playoffs because of the weak East division and the crossover rule.
I think Maciocia sealed his fate with the "safety decision" that I feel was the turning point in the game.
After that, with the exception of some 4th quarter desperation...it seemed it was all down hill for the Eskimos.
When you allow TWO returns for TD's you cannot blame the decision to give up a safety for that loss. For me, special teams made all the difference. Full credit to MTL for the great blocking on those two TD's. You just can't allow the kind of yardage MTL got on their returns and expect to win.
