Porter To Start On Friday !!

Glenn has been lucky to then. Toronto is 3-7 and Edmonton has a weak defense.

Just give credit where credit is do. Porter is a good QB. He is our future. Glenn looked terrible vs Toronto.

These posts coming from the same guy who was going to cheer for the Stamps last year. Take them with a grain of salt.

Newrabidcatfan:

We did not beat them resoundingly. I was there. The last quarter was a real nailbiter. Montreal was behind but every fan within 25 rows of me fully expected Montreal to come up with a win. They were piling on the pressure but a combination of bad penalties and some good play calling on our part held the day. Talk about nail-biting time! That clock seemed to take forever to run down.

It was a great win though. Even last year’s ā€œswiss cheeseā€ defence came through at the end.
It was good for Marcel who had just taken over and good for Porter because he was new as the starter and played a great game under incredible pressure. I believe Porter can do this again now that his injuries have ( I hope) healed.
Thats why I think Porter should be starting this week. Glenn has shown an occasional flash of good stuff but his inconsistent play only qualifies him for the back-up spot …as long as Porter is healthy.

I'm happy to see Porter get the start.

He's had a winning record for us this year. He's our QB of the future. He went into the season as our starter-- to keep him on the bench after healing from injury and after Glenn had a poor game in his last outing does nothing to build Porter's confidence, it tells him the team does not have confidence in him after all. Starting him tells him the coach does have confidence in him. I think Porter will respond positively with a good game.

Benching Glenn now does him no harm-- it puts him in the position he expected when he came here. If Porter falters, Glenn can come on in relief as he has done before.

Playing the Grey Cup champs when they seem to be returning to form will be difficult. We're fortunate to have two good QBs here.

I can't say I'm surprised but I think it's a mistake. Glenn may not have played lights out but he was putting points on the board and giving his team chances to win. This is definitely 'put up or shut up' time for Porter. Let's just see what he's got.

He didnt start again regina, and when he came in they were down by like 20 points.

OK Porter is 3-3
Glenn is 2-2
Happy? Both can win, both can lose.
Saying that, start Porter, he may get better, we know Glenn won't

Glad that they are starting Porter. It is the right choice.

The way Marcel hooks QBs these days the title of "starter" doesnt mean a whole helluva alot. Other than you've earned the right to be the first one to be pulled if things dont go well.

I'm ok with either one.

Well, I'm a fan of both realizing that neither is a qb that is in the upper echelon of qb's in this league, Porter yet and Glenn close, very close but not quite ever. But doesn't mean you can't win with a very good but not excellent qb, not at all, other factors play in of course.

That’s what I was going to say. If last week’s game was any indication, Glenn will probably play on Friday. It may just be a question of when Glenn will be put in, what could lead to Porter being replaced, etc.

What Bellefeuille has to say about when Glenn might replace Porter can be found here: http://scratchingpost.thespec.com/2009/ … orter.html

"It’s one of those things you just have to feel out. You have to assess it as the game going along. If you’re struggling is that the quarterback, or is it other people? He hasn’t played in a little while, so that will have an effect too. Also, at some point you have to give him the opportunity to play through some things. Part of his growth is going to be to finish and to play through some challenges. He hasn’t had to do that yet because we have Kevin here and he’s been good."
8) I agree "barney". If Porter doesn't put up in this game as the starter, then he might be the next
 guy to get his walking papers  !!!    <!-- s:wink: -->:wink:<!-- s:wink: -->
8) Why do you think I do them "deerhunter" !!!
 Thanks mik, ooops, I mean deerhunter !!!!     <!-- s:wink: -->:wink:<!-- s:wink: -->

You are kidding, right? After a terrible game by Glenn, you are actually thinking that Porter may be the next to go?

Everyone is on one side of the fence or the other but Porter is the future and has won us 3 games. Will he play perfect? No cuz he’s still learning. He has been coached up not to lose games for us. He doesn’t force balls into double coverage like Glenn and he’ll actually take off and run with it. Maybe he does it too often but he keeps drives going.

I don’t hide the fact, I am on Porter’s side. I have not liked what I have seen from Glenn. He has tried to force too many balls in, he doesn’t have the touch on the deep ball and he doesn’t ever just take off and run. He’s a veteran QB who is just an okay QB. That’s it. Sorry to break the news but he’s an average QB. You can see now why Winnipeg was so quick to get rid of him.

Porter is our future. As much as people talk about playoffs and home playoff games, we are still rebuilding this year. We have a lot of young guys, still learning to play their roles, including Mr. Porter. I think the surprising thing is that he has started during 3 of our wins. He’s developing but I think the reigns are still on him. We need to open the playbook up a little bit and let him chuck the rock around.

Right now, Porter is managing the game. Trying not to turn the ball over or force it into double coverage. We are content getting a couple first downs and then punting. This is what the coaching staff wants from him. Once they get this confidence in him, they will unleash him.

What I have been noticing with Glenn is that he’s streaky. He’ll move the ball one quarter, then have 5 straight 2 and outs.

What do we want out of this year? Win a Grey Cup? You are honestly dreamin or smoking funny stuff if you think we are going all the way this year. The truth is, we are putting in the building blocks for the next 5 years. Glenn is not the long term solution, Porter is. There isn’t as many miles on Porter and he has greater potential.

We are just as capable with Porter and can put up just as many points.

Does everyone have bad games? Yes, everyone does. I see more consistency out of Porter than I do with Glenn.

Glenn is our back up. He was signed as our back up. We are using him like he is a back up. I have no issues with this.

If Porter struggles, put Glenn in. I am glad that we have a capable back up. Unfortunately thats all Glenn is at this stage of the game, a back up.

If Porter plays the rest of the season and is garbage, get rid of him. I would rather find out now that he stinks than to play Glenn the rest of the season and find out in the middle of next season that Porter isn’t the real deal. I want to find this out now. If not, next year we will be a .500 team again. I don’t want that, I want to compete with MTL next year. We can do it.

We just need to give Porter his shot now and then our real future will be a lot clearer.

I don't think this is a good move.
Glenn was playing well IMO.
This is not the Quinton Porter(development) show.
I think having him come in on 2 series last week may or may not have contributed to our loss.
If anything, he should have come in for the 1st series of the second half, so as not to throw off Kevin Glenn's rhythm.

Now if Porter is unimpressive(under 330 yards passing and 2 touchdowns), but the cats win, I still say start Glenn next game.
Although I think he may be coming in to replace Porter in the 2nd or 3rd quarter.

You are kidding, right? After a terrible game by Glenn, you are actually thinking that Porter may be the next to go?

8) Ahhh, yes I was kidding. Don't you see the "wink", after my comment !!

I hope that the team comes out on offence aggressively.
The last thing that I want to see is the team in a passive throw the ball 4 yards routine like the 2nd half last week.
Calgary is a VERY good team.
Lets come out storming and take it to them on offence!

Alan, I agree that Glen is not the QB for the Cats in the long term. But at the moment, I think he is a better QB than Porter and gives the team a better chance to win. While Glenn is obviously not the QB of the future, I’m still far from convinced that Porter is the answer either. For a guy that’s being touted as the long term solution at QB, he hasn’t shown me nearly enough. He’s been fair to middlin’ so far in his Cats career. Management handed him the #1 job from Day 1 this year and given him every opportunity to claim the job as his. My feeling is that a true #1 would’ve taken the bull by the horns but Porter is still floundering–a decent game, a not so good game. I really want to see something special from him and soon.

Wise words Barney. Marcel is trying to balance developing a franchise QB with earning a home playoff game. The unspoken question from the team is whether Porter is in fact that guy. I really do want to see the team be able to develop its own QBs but at this stage I don't really care who it is...just win baby.

We have Two QB on Bench who could be Our QB of The Future .
I think they are better long Term Projects then Porter .
We need a QB for now The Future Can wait.
Start Kevin the Rest of Year
Our Best chance to make the playoffs
I am tired of waiting for a home playoff Game.

As for a QB of The Future.
Lets look at our back ups
Adam has seen game time as our Short Yardage QB
I Think He is Best Shot at development of a QB.
Then there Jason are 4th String QB
who has a Hell of an Arm. (a Detier Brock in Waiting )

Porter can't read Defences The Team Let him try read one half of Field
If he don't see anything He Runs..
I've see him miss Wide open WR on side of Field he Not Reading
Why ?
cause can't read the Defence.
Then the Running for 5 yards missing 20 yard Gains.
One of these day he going he by Linebacker and get Squished.
