This Sunday will be the first home game of VFC of the premier league. As I call it this Lego popup stadium won’t be 100% finished but it should be good to go. These stadiums should do well for a cfl expansion team. This one holds 6550 but can go to 20,000. Not sure what happened to the roof but originally it should have had one.
I’m quite curious to see what they’ll roll out at SMU this summer for TD Atlantic, and if what they do roll out is the intended “temporary-permanent” solution.
That will be interesting.
What… no private boxes or corporate suites? Where’s the ten story Jumbotron? How so you expect Torontonians to sign off on this madness?
ok i admit i am a bit disappointed that i clicked on this topic to find no mention of Home Depot or domes.
That idea is NOT entirely dead in the water. It’s just on hold until someone takes us seriously.
I’m pretty sure he just meant a roof over some of the stands, not over the field.
Yes, originally it was suppose to have a roof. I’m not sure what happened. It would have been a cantilevered roof.
Looking at this rendering, the only “roof” part seems to be pretty small over what might be some luxury boxes.
that “rendering” almost looks like it was done in MS Paint lol
maybe the 10th CFL team should be like a traveling team with a portable stadium. kinda like an east division globe-trotters. lol
i’d be interested in seeing one of those stop motion vids of it being constructed. interesting that they can go to 20, 000 capacity.
I think these pop-up stadiums come with temporary roofs that are more commonly known as ‘bubble-wrap’. It’s part of the packaging they use during transportation to and from the construction site. At some venues you can hear the distinct sound of giddy fans popping their temporary roofs while laughing uncontrollably. Some of them even wet their pants.
Here’s part of an interview in The Province a few months back.
The club says the venue “is designed to grow with the club and its surrounding community.”
“We hope over the coming years to add to the stands, add a covered roof to the structure and build it out as we hope the sport and the community build out,” Shillington said.
The stadium is owned by and will be operated by the Township of Langley. The soccer franchise is involved in its construction through its parent company’s affiliate SixFive Stadium Experience — a business that came out of the group’s experiences with Pacific FC’s Starlight Stadium in Langford and the new Langley venue.
interesting. i know exactly where the Langley events center is. i also live 10 minute walk from Starlight Stadium and it is pretty awesome for football. it’s not CFL capacity but it would be with some expansion.
I heard Amar Doman said if he was a betting man he would bet on Touchdown Pacific happening in Victoria.
The hope is to expand the stadium, which is owned by and operated by the Township of Langley, and add a roof in the years to come.
over here in Victoria, Pacific FC and their fans are pretty amped up for this game. they take this new rivalry seriously. the games at Starlight are well-attended. i hope Vancouver FC has success.
