Two reasons I'm not buying a Western final ticket yet.
Don't count your chickens before they're hatched.
And the number one (and real) reason?
They're not for sale yet!
They're 4 games behind us with 6 games remaining so, mathematically, they could still take the western top spot.
Bombers would have to lose at least 3 games and Calgary win all 6 to win the west.
I believe the magic number is at two for the Blue Bombers to finish ahead of the Stampeders. BC, however would have a little better chance with the games they have left and because the season series between the Lions and Bombers is still up in the air
They're missing a playoff scenario. Edmonton can also become the first team to be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention if they lose to Saskatchewan this week.
I might not be figuring this correctly but Bombers have 24 points with 5 games remaining so could end with maximum 34 points.
Calgary has 16 points with 6 games remaining for a possible total of 28 points.
BC also has 16 points with 6 games remaining for a possible total of 28 points too.
Bombers would have to lose 3 of their remaining games to end with 28 points. In that case Winnipeg would end on top of Calgary if the Stamps won out.
BC would also have to win out to beat the Bombers as they would have also beat the Bombers twice in that scenario.
But both BC and Calgary can't win out because they play each other twice..
Or am I missing something?
Bombers have a legit chance of pretty much playing second stringers in like two weeks since they may have solidified their first seed. Unless something crazy happens the west will have to go through Winnipeg
That's pretty much it. If we keep winning we run Calgary and BC out of opportunities to catch up. They play each other twice and a split would solidify our hold on first place since both teams would be another game further back.
And Calgary needs to better the Bombers record having lost the season series. In other words they need to win 4 more games than the Bombers do, being 3 behind in the loss column. That my friend is about as long shot as it gets.
True, but that always seems to be hit and miss for any team. There is no sure fire formula. Teams have won and lost both ways. I am sure O’Shea and Company would much prefer the rest and the opportunity to allow their numerous injured players extra time to heal. Maybe they will even learn from last year’s similar circumstances.
Hey Dibs, you mentioned Calgary has 6 games remaining for a possible total of 28 points, that's correct. So now because Winnipeg has 24 points and already won the season series with Calgary, means they only need 28 points for them to finish ahead of the Stampeders which means their magic number is 2 (does that make sense)
BC actually has 7 games left but with two against the Bombers we still won't know who won the season series at least until after the next game (if its a Bombers victory) however, it may not even matter depending on what happens with the Lions and Bombers before then.
According to the standings page, BC is 8-3. Meaning that they have 7 games left. Calgary 2X, Winnipeg 2X, Ottawa, Toronto and Edmonton.
Techinically, the magic number is 6 pts. BC has 16 pts and 7 games left. They could get a maximum of 30 pts. Bombers have 24 pts. Bombers need 6 more pts to clinch 1st place. Of course that is a combination of Bombers wins and Lions loses.
Hoping that this all gets resolved before we get to the home and home with BC.
You're correct. I guess that's why I initially had Bombers needing to lose three for Calgary to move ahead.
Unfortunate that Rourke likely won't be back this seaason. I was hoping to see a live game with him.
You have to do both loss and win. If the Bombers lose all their games and Calgary wins all theirs. 16 points and 12 (for 6 more wins) is 28, for Calgary. Bombers lose all or all but one. 24 or 26 points.
