Typically Hamilton. Lets keep the bar so low so at least we hit it now and then.
As I understand it, that’s the case for the Grey Cup game, but not for the division playoffs. Teams bid to host the GC, and pay the league a fee.
East West thing has to be maintained.
Consecutive playoffs and Cups with all west teams would would be a deathblow to East markets.
Imagine a Calgary vs BC Grey Cup in Ottawa or Montreal…
Or Hamilton
worse yet, imagine no east home playoff games.
and no east teams in the final 3 games
You kidding? The #realfans of this city would sell out any Grey Cup. Even Halifax/BC.
I fully agree.
Like in 1996? They were giving away tickets.
Duane Forde feels that the current schedule is not balanced . East teams play the west 10 times . The west teams play west teams 10 times. The Cats play 8 games in their division while the west plays 8 games against the east.
If we go to a 10 team league, then west and east teams could each play a 10 and 8 schedule. If you wanted more intradivisional play, then have the Cats play each western team once a season. That would be a 5 and 13 schedule, wherein we play Argos, Als, and Redblacks 3 times each and Halifax 4 times, for a total of 13 .
It could work , maybe. The CFL is a unitjng forcein the country. Don’t lose the East- West Grey Cup tradition.
Pat Lynch (the old guy)
We have a new leader for post of the year.
1988 - Winnipeg vs BC @ Ottawa…attendance 50,604
1992 - Winnipeg vs Calgary @ Toronto…attendance 45,863
2001 - Winnipeg vs Calgary @ Montreal…attendance 65,255
2007 - Winnipeg vs Saskatchewan @ Toronto…attendance 52,230
Now I know that the argument I’ll hear is “Well these games don’t count because Winnipeg was in the Eastern division” Come on folks we all know that Winnipeg is a true Western club even though they were exiled to the East for a number of years to even things out .
Make that a “uniting” force …
Pat Lynch (my spelling badness)
Year after year , not once in awhile, East teams being isolated from the post season and thus east media markets losing interest would kill ratings and kill interest in the east.
No East no CFL.
what about 2011
FYB it was in BC…
Couldn’t agree more, and it’s not like this doesn’t happen in other leagues. The NFL has had its fair share of .500 or sub .500 teams make the playoffs usually by winning weak divisions and thereby host playoff games.
The NHL seems to find new and exciting ways of having top five teams beat the hell out of eachother in the first round, while simultaneously allowing sub-100 point teams home ice advantage vs weaker opponents no less.
This isn’t as big of a deal as removing the East-West rivalry would be long term to the viability of this league.
ahh right thanks
I know I am CFL fan first .
I would love to see a rivalry game for a Grey Cup .
Toronto versus Hamilton
Edmonton versus Calgary
We already got to see Winnipeg versus Saskatchewan ; the CFL would be better with new teams facing off against each other once in awhile .
It will build new stories whether it’s the old east versus west or two from the same province . It will make a better invigorated product .
Did the CFL die when Baltimore was in it ? What part of Canada were they from ?
You already showed the facts for the Winnipeg games there really is no sound argument to reward bad management of football operations year after year .
The CFL is not winning any fans over with this theory .Let them play on a level playing field and compete without a leg up and maybe you’ll see more fans with better football .
Saturday showed that the two of the games would have meant something with a 1 to 6 seeds . Instead we got two more exhibition games .
