Cobb does not qualify as a Rookie. McDaniel will be our nominee there and no they are not called Schenley awards anymore. They haven't been for years.
I was looking at some stats and I really think McDaniel has a good shot. While Hefney is more noticed because he's loud and fiery, I think the stats say that McDaniel should be the Eastern nominee. Can't see any reason why he shouldn't win it.
We should have outstanding rookie and outstanding defensive player lined up without question. If we don't win these two awards something is very wrong. Outstanding ST player for the East will probably be Taylor from Montreal or maybe Johnson from WPG.
Here are the official nominees. A few surprises there... I'm happy for Markeith (sorry for JJ) and I'm surprised Marwan got the nod for Canadian and Lineman.... well done guys...

Interesting to see who the Ti-Cats have nominated. While Knowlton has had a very good year, I think that Johnson is their best defensive player. This guy brings it on every play, and leads the league in tackles for a good reason.
Hopefully this will really get him reved for this weekends game and he will shut down Reid and Bishop.
The Ticats didn't select them... As per the cfl.ca article...
The players were selected by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and the CFL head coaches.
Johnson is an animal, but it's hard to argue with the versatility of Knowlton. He's not far behind Johnson in tackles and he's got the forced fumbles, blocked punts and fumble returns.....
What???
Johnson for sure should have been nominated for Top Defensive Player and maybe even Most Outstanding Player.
Knowlton did have a good year, as did Floyd.
...and Stala for sure should have been nominated as Top Canadian, especially with Hage getting Lineman.
Also, not sure I would have chosen Hage over Goodspeed?
Dylan Barker is a good choice as is Bruce, but JJ could have been the choice there too.
I feel sorry that Cobb was overlooked...he would have been a lock for Rookie if not for his NFL stint.
Glenn might have had a shot if he had started earlier.
Coming from the media, you never know, but it concerns me that Marcel voted. I hope some who were overlooked don't take it as a slight from the coach.
Marcel only gets one vote. I highly doubt that any of the players not selected will think anythng of it. I’m not at all upset about Knowlton getting this nomination. He has been a solid performer for 2 years now and he’s (quietly) having an outstanding year. He definitely deserves this. So does Johnson.
I seriously don’t think that Hefney should get the nod over McDaniel. He’s got 64 tackles and 4 interceptions and 162 return yards. To me that’s not enough to beat out someone who leads the league in all-purpose yards as a rookie.
McDaniel defintely makes a good case aswell. It will come down to those two one would think.
It's just that Hefney has a much higher profile due to the picks and is already a great cover man. McDaniel is overshadowed by AB111 and took some time to crack starting lineup . Some big returns and more TDs would def. tip the balance.
But McDaniel does have time left to change minds.
Chick is the most dominant D -lineman in the league with the numbers and league-wide reputation to back it up. Almost without exception the award goes to D ends or MLBs.
Isn't it much better to be discussing who is more deserving out of some great choices...vs arguing over who should get because we have to nominate someone?
