Pick a replacement for Marc Trestman (Rookie HC List)

If you can think of a couple other candidates I can add them.

If Marc/Brutus Trestman does leave, I would be the least surprised that assistants such as Pat Meyer and Andy Bischoff will follow him.

As I wrote on other occasions, my number one choice is definitely Noel Thorpe. Doug Berry could be hired as Offensive Coordinator and QB Coach.

The Als will have a good team, whether Trestman and/or Popp are no longer with the team.

I surely hope that Mr.Wetenhall will ask them to make their mind soon. This "soap opera" cannot continue for too long.

Of the list, Chris Jones (although not sure he would leave his close friend Milanovich) or Jaques Chapdelaine.
Both have had success in the league as co ordinators and the next logical step would be as HC.

At this point, do not want wish to see any unproven rookie coaches without any league experience. Some familiarity the league would be a big benefit I believe.

If the money is right then Chris Jones would be a good coice now with him and Thorpe the defensive issues would be solved. Pat Myer along with Calivillo should keep the offense run more smoothly. With Jones as HC i think he would put much more time and empahsis onto special teams something that Trestman just did not feel was that important.
He could be the best candidate out of them all new or ex do to these reasons
In Toronto Mike O’Shea being a former All star MLB could make the move to defensive coordiantor

I'd want Jones because I feel it's time we had a defensive-minded coordinator who can really be involved in rebuilding our defense, which hasn't been great the past few years. Also, Jones broke in coaching under Don Matthews, which means that he'll a. be aggressive and b. place the right emphasis on special teams.

Would he come back ? Jones HC and Cortez as OC (Both won a GC together in Calgary) might actually be an improvement over what we have.

That would be a great combination, but as you implied, this is just pie in the sky stuff at this point.

I'll tell you one thing: if Chris Jones were our HC, there would be none of this easing off the gas kumbaya crap in the fourth quarter. He learned from The Don, who had no compunction about putting his foot on the other team's throat and turning a win into a blowout win. THAT is what I want to see again in Montreal: a pair of cahones.

That would be a great combo but what would happen with Pat Myer who just got promoted to OC. Bringing Cortez would mean changing the offense, do the ALS want to change there offensive scheme probably not at this point with Calivillo at the helm and a grromed back up with similar skill set.

If Trestman goes. Unless you could pry Milanovich out of Toronto (unlikely). You can't run the same offense. Pat Myer coached the oline last year. That is why Trestman leaving like this is so damaging. To Calvillo, Myers, Quinlan especialy. All these guys wha made commitments based on Trestman's new contract and commitment. If Trestman had left last year and Scott taken over its ok. This year its terribly unfair to the franchise.

Exactly. He's putting the franchise in a very bad position.

I am also starting to wonder whether his refusal to hire experienced coaches stems from a desire to keep control of his "fallback" situation here in Montreal. As long as there is no viable internal candidate to replace him, he can audition for NFL jobs every offseason without worrying about losing his Als job. But if you put a Doug Berry or Greg Marshall on staff...

Don't disagree he looks like a control freak but with a four year contract he's got all the security he needs to hold the team over a barrel anyway. Look now looks like he hired Hovan but the team says he hasn't been hired. So that means if he comes back Hovan has a job but if he moves on we still don't have a dline coach. While he's waiting for answers the team is paying to fly around 15 guys to his place in North Carolina and the staff isn't complete because Mr. Trestman is waiting for answers about his interviews. Alouettes deservee better than that. I feel like I'm supporting the "Chiefs" from the Slapshot movie :frowning:

Always wondered about that myself.

Cheer up everybody
