Philpot vs Philpot

Here's a comparison of how the twin first-round draft picks are stacking up so far in their rookie season:

Not surprisingly, they look pretty even. Tyson has contributed a bit more for the Als than Jalen has for the Stamps--and he missed a couple games with injury.

I expect Tyson to become a starting calibre receiver, maybe even a star. He certainly has top level speed.

I'm sure their momma would spank you for comparing them. We're supposed to love them both equally.

During free agency I'll bet they both try to sign with the same team. Who's gonna get 'em? Will they wind up in the East or the West?

My wife is an identical twin. Don't assume that twins want to be together at all times. In many cases, twins look to forge their own unique paths as adults, in large part because they've grown up always sharing space with their sibling and because people tend to lump them together (even referring to them as "the twins", which thankfully now isn't encouraged from the standpoint of early childhood education).

I've been really impressed with Tyson Philpot this year. He's done well in limited action and looks to have all the tools to be an impact receiver in this league.

Maybe so. I keep thinking about the legendary Forzani Twins who played in Calgary together. Hufnagel would likely remember them.

Do you ever pull out the old "I married the wrong twin" barb in the heat of an argument? I bet twins would just love hearing that.

I don't do that, because I am not interested in getting murdered by my spouse.

With both twins getting ready to play this weekend, I thought I'd check out the final regular-season stats comparison:

RECEIVING

Jalen

YEAR TEAM GP REC ATT YDS YAC TD AVG LG
2022 CGY 14 23 33 317 111 3 13.8 54

Tyson

YEAR TEAM GP REC ATT YDS YAC TD AVG LG
2022 MTL 18 39 53 459 285 2 11.8 66

Pretty even, but I give the edge to Tyson.

RUSHING

Jalen

YEAR TEAM GP CAR YDS TDS AVG LG
2022 CGY 14 10 102 0 10.2 32

Tyson

YEAR TEAM GP CAR YDS TDS AVG LG
2022 MTL 18 1 16 0 16.0 16

Jalen gets the nod here.

PUNT RETURNS

Jalen

YEAR TEAM GP PR YDS AVG LG TD
2022 CGY 14 1 24 24.00 24 0

Tyson

YEAR TEAM GP PR YDS AVG LG TD
2022 MTL 18 11 153 13.90 58 0

Tyson contributed much more here.

KICKOFF RETURNS

Jalen

YEAR TEAM GP KOR YDS AVG LG TD
2022 CGY 14 22 598 27.20 77 0

Tyson

YEAR TEAM GP KOR YDS AVG LG TD
2022 MTL 18 12 342 28.50 60 0

Fairly even, but I think Jalen gets the nod for total yards.

MISSED FG RETURNS

Jalen

YEAR TEAM GP NO YDS AVG LG TD
2022 CGY 14 2 35 17.50 29 0

Tyson

YEAR TEAM GP NO YDS AVG LG TD
2022 MTL 18 1 16 16.00 16 0

Small sample size, so I'd call this even.

Overall, then, maybe I'll give a slight edge to Tyson. He got into more games and was more of a regular contributor, and hence was nominated for MOR.

For guys that didn't really look that impressive at the combine, they've both impressed in live action.

So it's the kiddie table for Jalen at Christmas this year I guess. Seriously they can both be proud of making their teams & contributing in their first year.

Absolutely. I was skeptical after watching them at the combine, but the hype they had going in was warranted.

They are both explosive game breaking players, whether receiving or running. Both have a great future - if they can keep their helmets on and not end up with head injury problems.

I think for me that was one of the scariest moments this year because Tyson was out cold in the air on that play. Where that matters is - there are secondary problems because you don't protect yourself when you land.....

Aw c'mon. Give it a try... she'll only murder you once. :+1:

While Jalen was drafted ahead of Tyson, the ultimate first year bragging rights of a potential Grey Cup still hang in the balance with kickoff for the Division Semi-Final matchups less than 24-hours away.
