Perrett released?

Herb reporting Jeff Perrett has been released.

Also Anwar Stewart not going to be back.

Not surprised if Jeff Perrett released; he had his problems last year and commanded a high salary. This release would/will definitely make room/cap space for David Foucault.

Very surprising if true. In a year when we're searching for a starter at LT, to jettison the veteran RT seems a bit of a risk. But if Jeff is gone, it's possible that the coaching staff has confidence in the crop of younger players we have (White, Piotrowski) or one of the new internationals on the roster (Gibson, Bamiro).

Anwar not coming back is a real shame. I hope it's not related to money.

Perrett may have had problems, but he was not the only one. Smells like financial to me.
Shame. Hope it does not come back to bite them.

Also to hear of Stewart, disappointing. Let him go to the Stamps at the end of his playing career and now that he has been back in a coaching position, he's done here.

Wonder if he will end up like Chiu who will be wearing a RedBlack GC ring later this year.

My first reaction to both of these moves is WTF!

But I guess we have to let things play out and wait for the next moves. But as of right now we don`t have a proven CFL tackle - right or left. Hope Durant has good insurance.

If they're clearing cap to sign Foucault, I'm completely on board.

Edit: RDS confirms the release of both Perrett and Stewart: http://www.rds.ca/football/alouettes/lc ... -1.4342042

So now we have the following coaching vacancies:

Receivers coach
Offensive line coach (unless Sweet returns)
Offensive coordinator (or will Calvillo be back in a "Milanovich working for Trestman" type of OC role?)
Special teams coordinator
Defensive line coach

If not Calvillo, who would be suited as OC? Chaps?

Chapdelaine said the coaches would be meeting in Mtl. for 2 wks. at the end of Jan. Well tomorrow is the end of Jan. and no official announcement as yet.

Unless they`re holding a rookie camp for assistant coaches.

I assume that Chaps, being an offensive guy, is going to be de facto OC (a la Trestman) no matter who holds the OC title – unless we hire a veteran OC who can be trusted to build a good playbook and call a good game, which is doubtful at this point in the hiring season (and given that Reed said the coaching staff is only going to be tweaked, not overhauled).

My gut feeling is that Sweet and AC will both be back but we’ll have to see. I certainly didn’t think Anwar would get released so anything is possible.

My thought as well re Chaps and given the timing now in terms of a new playbook.

Worth noting too that Perrett was one of our last player links to the Don Matthews era of the Alouettes. Now we're down to Chip Cox and John Bowman.

Western boy @JeffPerrett would love to stay in #CFL East for family reasons but will go where opportunity is. #TSN690

#Alouettes gave @JeffPerrett chance to return but with Big position change and big $ tough love. #CFL #TSN690

Sounds like they asked him to become a backup at backup salary. Understandable for both parties. I wish Jeff the best wherever he ends up.

At this point in his career, do not blame Perrett for opting out. Maybe he is hoping he will land with one of the favored teams playing his natural position and for similar money.

I don't blame him or us. He thinks he still has game and should have the right to put that theory to the test with another team. But for us, it's time to move on. He had a brutal year last year and while much of that can be attributed to team-wide or line-wide problems, he is a 10-year vet who doesn't have inexperience as an excuse.

John Bowman has signed extension to 2018

Blake, Matte, LBJ, Gagnon, White

I prefer to pin it on team wide, line wide. Let's face it, there were dismal as a unit. Hard to single out Perrett .
