Not a huge surprise but Salt Lake City awarded another Olympics. Likely to become one of a few “permanent” hosts.

Winter games are pretty easy, find someplace that has a mountain and a rink. No expensive swimming pools, athletic stadiums, ball parks, no stopping of traffic for the triathlon, marathon,bike races. Just need snow and ice

Makes sense - I wonder how long before the World Cup does the same thing? find some nations that can handle it without having to go broke or build a ton of stadiums. South Africa, Brazil Qatar - To date the one that was held in the USA was the most profitable from what I gather - this is due to the USA having 100 + stadiums that will work for soccer.
Most of the soccer stadiums in Europe and the UK can be used and no need to build or modify any of them.
For the US, yes a soccer field fits nicely into a football stadium as proven by the successful CopaAmerica tournament.
BMO in Toronto is the only true soccer stadium in Canada with mainly real grass and a roof over the stands and can easily get more temp stands in there.

If a couple of cities get together to bid on back to back Olympics the IOC will have zero to little leverage in regards to infrastructure costs.
Too many cities bid which results in costs getting out of hand.
Or cities can host back to back and the next one can do the same.
Too bad Canada will no longer host any big events after 2026 (costs continuously rising).

For some time now there has been waning interest in bidding on the Olympic games as set out in the article posted earlier today by Stickweld. So “too many cities” are no longer bidding on the Olympics and it could get to the point where no city or cities wants to fork out the money which is never recouped. Therefore the concept of permanent hosts. Vancouver has also been mentioned as a possibilty for that in some articles I have read. In addition the IOC is among the most corrupt and demanding sports organizations in history along with FIFA and I think there are many places and people that are sick of them lining their pockets at the expense of others as well.

Unfortunately Leylah Fernandez has a tough opening round draw.
She is however considered to be the only Canadian medal contender at the Olympics but that is in doubles.
Pretty cool looking stadium that seats 12,000. I’m not sure if it is meant to be permanent or of the pop up variety. Highlights how much money it costs to host the Olympics. halifax seems to be unable to afford even a stadium that seats 12,000 much less a proper sized CFL stadium.

Even those who don’t think that Canada could have benefitted much from the drone information think it would have been reasonable to not award them any points from this game. It appears that whatever the punishment may be that they will have gotten away with a full Belichik for this tourny.
I’m curious to know what information they received from the super-spy drone.
I don’t watch a ton of soccer so the only thing I can think of is player placement on the field and passing tendencies?

That spy drone thing is just a horrendous embarrassment. I can’t even imagine what the heck those that were involved were thinking. I feel awful for the women’ soccer team players.
