Pan Am gate

A report this morning says that the province offered Mayor Fraud an extra 20 million to make the EM location work. The mayor did not inform council of this because this would swing council to vote EM. He earlier denied that this ever happened, but now he admits it. Further evidence that this tool needs to go ASAP.

If this is True He should Resign as Mayor of Hamilton
He Just proven he not worthy of the Office

I had this post in the long running Stadium Thread, I will put it here now.

That is an appalling display of deception by the Mayor. Onknight is correct; he should resign at once.

I posted in the long thread also, but it now makes things much clearer as to why Bob Young pulled his money the day before. He knew of the call and when Eisenberger did not respond he knew he would lose.

Eisenberger must not only be forced to resign he must be investigated as to how much he gains from the WH deal. He obviously still has very strong ties to the Port Authority. There should be an investigation into all of this.

I do not know if council can do anything like censure or not, maybe someone here who has municipal law background could let us know what council can do.

I e-mailed Mayor Fraud and demanded him to resign. We all need to do the same. Let him known that we're not happy.

Call in the police. Something is very wrong here

Mayor Fred is quick to mention half baked commercial/development proposals that support the WH location to the council. But doesn't mention this half baked proposal from the provincial government which would have aided it the development of a EM stadium PLUS aid in the clean up of the WH location. So what is his WH agenda??

Here is an interesting link to Municipal Conflict of Interest Rules. The section on consequences is very interesting. Not a big read but very informative.

I am stunned. He should have aloud Councillor Jackson motion to delay for 5 days. I repeat, he is a disgrace to all public servants.

Excellent point, coupe6652,

Fred fixed the vote on the West Harbour to get his way.

Hopefully, those of you who were upset at Bob Young for
pulling his money off the table before the vote see that now.

And I thought DiLanni was involved in organized crime, makes me wonder what kind of kick back's the mayor is trying to get from the white star group for WH condo's.

Wow is all I can say after reading this.

Just to be clear, Di Ianni made an honest mistake which experts relate to speeding.

I have calmed down now and re-read the article. what it states is that the mayor was told that

“the city now needed to start thinking about what it needed to make that work”

The article indicates this was on the Thursday or Friday prior to Tuesday vote. Why did the mayor not think this was important? Why did he not support a delay in the vote? (Could it be because he knew he had support for the West Harbour?) Earlier this week we were told the cats did indeed offer 10 alternative sites yet council was not told about this, what other facts have been withheld from council?

I am going get some additional facts and email both the Integrity Commissionaire of Hamilton (I think that is his title) as well as the Ontario Ombudsman to ask for a public inquiry into this fiasco.

Given the revelations about what the Mayor knew of the provincial financial offer for the EM site, his decision to keep this information from city council and have them vote on the stadium location in ignorance, plus the many other deceptive statements by the Mayor throughout the stadium discussion, I do not blame Bob Young at all for pulling out of negotiations. The Mayor cannot be trusted. Bob is too honourable to be expected to do business on that basis.

In light of this, I would not blame Bob for declining to enter into any new discussions about a stadium site or anything else in Hamilton at all, so long as this Mayor remains in office. In fact I would recommend he adopt that stance.

Whether the Pan Am Host Committee is prepared to wait until after the municipal elections to make its decision about whether to proceed with a stadium in Hamilton is an open question. I hope they are but they may not be.

If the current Mayor is re-elected, I would expect Bob Young to sell the club or move it to another city. If we're lucky it will be Burlington or another nearby location. If not, he may well go to Quebec. Based on his investment, his ongoing commitment, his actions and his words, I trust his judgment. I would support him in whatever choice he decides to make.

I agree: this latest revelation doesnt pass the smell test. Hamilton already has had one harbour scandal due to corruption (see Ken Elliot, 1970’s). is this another one?

I have also sent an email to the Mayors office and all of the councillors asking for his resignation and the resignation of any councillor who was aware of this information. My understandng is that there was a figure of 20M "tossed around" - someone told Dianni and he confronted Mayor Fred who denied it. He had a responsibility to this city to solidify this money, and tell city council before the vote. He screwed the city over big time. The east mountain site was not the site of choice, but a compromise site selected by the Mediator. It is time to force a new vote, with the exclusion of the Mayor, overturn this andd build on the east mountain. Yes, clean up the WH, we all want that, but putting a stadium there has stunk from the beginning. Following a revote - Eisenberger's actions should be investigated.

Contact all of the councillors and tell them you are pissed off. Enough is enough - I bet if the mayor loses, there is a nice high paying job waiting for him at the Port Authority.

I don’t think it about kickbacks to the mayor, but more to do with someone wanting something covered up. And a big stadium (not CFL big) would cover up a lot of incriminating evidence.
There seems to me to be no other reason for such an unreasonable push for a substandard site.
Someone should invesitgate the WH site to see what skeletons might be buried there.

We shouldn't have to wait for an election. He should be forced to resign now. The Ticats and every level of government has tried to make the East Mountain work, and he's ignored them, and withheld important funding information from Council. The police should arrest this guy. I hope Brad Clark, who seems to be the only councillor with balls, pursues Eisenberger's immediate resignation over this.
