Chad Owens is putting his fledgling mixed martial arts career on hold.http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/f ... e12803841/The Toronto Argonauts receiver/kick-returner signed a two-year contract extension with the CFL club Tuesday and said he won’t return to the Octagon during the course of his new deal.
“I’m not going to jeopardize what they’ve honoured me with and given me,? Owens said following Tuesday’s practice. “As far as MMA training, I’m still going to do some of those things . . . because of the cardio and it’s fun.
“As far as stepping into the Octagon and fighting, I can’t do that.?
Solid resigning by the time his contract expires he will be 33, probably throw another 2 year deal and by 35 I think he will have lost most of his explosiveness, could be a rotational guy. These next few years are key for Toronto, if they have another 6-12 disaster like they did before there Grey Cup season, all that momentum from GC100 comes to a grinding halt. Owens is a key guy in keeping this moving forward a "face of the franchise" if you will.
Also him using the term Octagon would imply that he's fighting in the UFC
Real positive there for the Boatmen with this signing.
