Outlook: Draft + TC 2012

What did we get for giving away 2nd pick overall for 4th?

Edm gave BC #2 and #20 and we received #4, #14, and #38.

This is a bargain even if Chambers lucks out for the Eagles to try to compete for the fifth receiver spot on the active roster in his rookie season.

Here was my post before the draft on that possibility: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=73877#p1299565

Even though we have to wait for Pasztor the Esks were pleased that they were able to get him; thanks to Tillman/Reed [did talk to Pasztor done in Mobile] to work out a deal with Buono. Austin will be groomed during his time spent with Minnesota, thus I’m happy we got him as some other team would have taken him for sure. Chambers is a big plus; Special teams play for him as a returner? With that all said I will be keeping tabs on Pasztor with his progress down in the Vikings camp. Other than that; hfxtc made a good point in another thread that with Ottawa soon to be in the draft (picking players not protected); perhaps there is strategy on why the teams picked the way they did?

Hope the Eskies have a good competitive camp.....I'm setting the bar for a 10-8 season :rockin:

Esks put UBC Thunderbird QB Billy Greene on their protected list 8)

Link has been altered and now shows a list of such; Topic may have been leaked/posted and shouldn’t have.
Oh well, hope it’s still true non the less; also in the article that was stated [each club?] is allowed up to two players to go on protected list [from CIS?] after the draft :? Strange…

O-Line Tackle; Devon Tyler on suspended list - 3 months sentence for an assualt charge.

Tillman interviewed on the Mark Spector show; stated it was a first time offence and a misdemeanor. Tyler is going to a minimum security facility and has access to weight training (and such) to atleast allow him to stay in shape. Devin was signed last August and was placed right away onto the game day roster, so putting him on the suspended list is a good thing. A player with the talent he has would be picked up by another team willing to give him a second chance I say.

Tillman talks about the rumoured (pre-mature TSN report) on UBC QB Billy Greene invite to Training Camp.
Rock on to the Thunderbird pivot none the less.

University of Alberta Golden Bears QB Cory Dell will be at TC.

Esks trade to Winnipeg; 2014 conditional 6th round draft pick to the Bombers in exchange for Import LB Merrill Johnson.

I do not understand why the Eskies have an interest in this player, but then again the experience came cheap.

Maybe Merrill Johnson is training camp insurance in case of one of the inexperienced LBs added to the roster does not work out.

Interesting news on the Esks Pre-Camp.

That site is worth bookmarking too.

Here’s my guess by position for who makes the final 46 with 42 for game day:

QB - 3
RB - 3
FB - 2
WR - 8 (includes kick returner)
OL - 8
DL - 6 (3 should be non-imports in my view)
LB - 6
DB - 7
ST - 3 (kicker, punter, long snapper)

I would think a team could go with less on the OL or with only one FB for any give point of the season, but I don’t see that strategy lasting for long given those positions are dominated by non-imports.

With just one injury it’s cutting it close or risking deficiency like last year for the OL when multiple injuries were at hand for the dominant non-import position.

Also if there were only one FB, another guy such as a non-import LB would have to pick up more of the dirty work on special teams.

Also if that single FB were injured, then what non-import would block on offence from the backfield and/or would offer the hands for occasional option for a screen or short pass?

If total rosters were expanded by only 2 players to 44 players for game day with 4 in reserve, the extra player in my view should be at RB and at DL.

Have 21 imports and 20 non-imports and 3QBs too, but in the regular season offer a bonus roster slot from the reserves for every starting non-import over 7, for at least one half of the prior game, excluding QBs.

I would think to suggest with the 4-3 D; MLB - Sherritt, LB at wil - Munoz, LB at sam - Hill. One other scheme from what I understand; DC Mark Nelson is going to go with the Double Eagle Flex....looking forward to seeing that.
In other news; the Esks [perhaps] are in talks with an O-Lineman with CFL experience to be signed before June 3rd; Patrick Kabongo or maybe Alex Gauthier?

I’m with you but no Hill at SAM! What!? :? NFW not as a starter! Are you drinkin’ some bad hooch?

We’ll definitely find another guy to play more SAM than Hill amongst the new guys.

Perhaps Hill could work out okay in a 2nd and long zone coverage package though (or 3rd and long at the end of games if the other team has to go for it and won’t kick), for he would act as sort of a 6th DB in such a defensive scheme.

http://www.esks.com/article/esks-ink-three

Esks in three; Import DB Jim Anderson - NI RB Brett Haenni and [Import OL Cory Woods, mentioned in the above Quote]

http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=397340

Esks release OL Jermaine Reid

Wow an early release before even June started?

Maybe we are set at DT already with 3 non-imports?

I would think the Eskies would keep also 3 imports to play DE.

We’ll see now what is decided at LB and in the secondary.
