I hope he is right on this one for two reasons. First of all I really miss not having a team from Ottawa in the league, always thought of them as my second team I guess.
Secondly, a new team means an expansion draft, so we might as well have one with players on our team now so we don't risk losing good players two years from now.
I just would like to know about "league sources" as Marty mentions. Yes, he's been right as you mention mikem although I don't know of any off the top of my head. But why are league employees or whatever leaking things to Marty and not to others? Does Marty have some sort of special touch with a few of them?
I believe that expansion is essential to the survival of the CFL, I don't know if I would give a team to Ottawa though...How many times must a franchise fold before everyone realizes the city won't support a team..Look to expand out east...Maybe halifax
You don’t know that. That’s like getting divorced and saying “Why get married again? The same thing will happen”. It’s different people involved.
The guy expected to be team president (and minority owner) is highly respected for turning around the fortunes of the 67’s hockey team by creating a family-friendly environment. The other owners are the proverbial “deep-pocketed, local” types that people have been saying for years that Ottawa needed. They’ll have more opportunities to generate profits from sources outside the team itself, and individual clubs will be getting more from an improved TV contract anyway.
I wouldn’t have been confident with D’angelo and I had concerns about palmer, but these guys sound like a good fit in terms of resources, commitment, knowledge of the market, etc, something owners here haven’t had since the 70’s.
It's hard to be optimistic when talking about a franchise that has folded twice..Wasn't everyone confident the last owners would be sucessful...Same City equals same fan base equals same result...
I would direct your attention to the history of the Montreal Alouettes/Concordes then. They’ve had similar struggles but through dedicated ownership and competent front office work have turned their fortunes around.
