Ottawa Hamilton game thread

Bring on Alice Cooper; What does it take to get inside of your mind? Your stuck in the middle Bungle, without any plans… :rockin: 34-25 Tiger Cat final…

Maybe Campbell is TRYING to get fired.

Why not try a field goal?

You can throw a LONG Hail Mary at the end if necessary, you can't expect to try a LONG field goal with their kicker.

Don't get that on 3rd and 7 either but that's okey dokey for us. Our d came up big when we needed it though!

needed to get the td in order to try onside kick

fg and ticats just take the ball at the 35.

brain fart by the guys in the booth for not getting that

Whew! At times not too pretty - but we'll take it!

I suspect the last 200 or so tickets available for next week's game against the Als will be snapped up by tomorrow and we'll have our first complete stadium 24,000 crowd at THF for one of the biggest games to be played in the city of Hamilton in almost four years since hosting the 2010 EDSF.

There was 1:41 left. Hamilton gets the ball at the 35 - if Ottawa holds in two straight plays they get the ball back with about 50 seconds left still.

Well with Burris overthrowing all of his receivers it is all moot point.. Even the blatant drop for a TD by Clark could of been more of a rainbow pass. Like the guy was 20 yards wide open.

Good thing Ottawa gave Burris 1/2 a mill to lead them. Imagine how bad they would have been with Glenn, at 300,000 instead.

Horrid game for the Cats on offense and id does not bode well for them for next week.
Right now, they look like the odd team out in the East.
As for the Blacks, wow where to start.
Who would have thought as all were saying the Renegades were god awful in their first year.
Not even close.
Burris and the QB back ups have to go and I would even say how Campbell has to be on a short leash next year.

They struggled at times but did end up with 332 yards according to stats on cfl.ca which is more than the Als got last week against Ottawa.

Hamilton had well over 100 yards rushing, so that was a big improvement over 12 yards last week.
The reality is.. Unless Ottawa implodes, the cats lose again

Friggin’ hated that call…

If you haven’t seen his post-game interview, his reasoning is that with a FG, you can’t onside kick, so even if you’re able to get the ball back, you’ll do so with almost no time. So what happened, Rick? Oh, you ended up with no time anyway.

The funny thing is that a couple of weeks back, he tried to “extend the game” by punting with just over 3 minutes left (I believe) and down two scores.

So I can live with reasoning that I don’t agree with (no, really… ) but at least be consistent in your thinking. He totally went away from his strategy from the earlier game, and was wrong both times (in my opinion, of course).

Will someone please explain to Glen Suitor that you can’t do an onside kick after a field goal? He says that every time. Hamilton would just take the ball on the 35.

But there was plenty of time to force a 2-and-out and get the ball back with more than enough time for Burris to get to the end zone. At the very least you extend the game to where Hamilton needs a couple of first downs to run out the clock. Turning the ball over on downs – or throwing an INT as he did – ends the game, because the RedBlacks are still down by 2 possessions and Hamilton has the ball.

The Cats will need to play much better against Montreal next week, though, particularly on offence. 2 defensive TDs and 1 on special teams and they win by 9. That was the scariest thing I saw this Hallowe’en.

Yup. If, and that is a big if, Hamilton does make the playoffs they will be in tough against any team that isn’t the Ottawa Redblacks.

They are a very different team playing at home.

Actually the only teams that Hamilton has lost to since Labour Day are Montreal and Toronto. They’ve spanked the Western teams pretty nicely…

Good point. Hopefully MTL beats the argos. Then the cats can beat MTL by 8 at home and host the Eastern Final. Wouldn’t have to play on the road until the Grey Cup.

Unfortunately we have looked terrible as of late. Things need to change.

The good thing is we’re undefeated at THF and now would be a good time to keep that streak alive. Especially with the next game being the first at full capacity.

I would have made that call, any day of the week, for a couple of reasons.

First is the obvious one, you take the field goal and the Ti-Cats take it at the 35. That alone is going to shave 43+ seconds off the clock (snap, field goal and two plays), without fail and you’ll likely get the ball back in average field position even with a 2 and out. With only around 2 minutes left, there’s a real chance you aren’t going to get back to the red zone where the odds of a TD are far higher.

Second, If you go for the TD and you fail, you can still try for 2 and out to get the ball back and make a TD march with still around 1:20 on the clock, and then try your onside. Given a turnover on downs was far more likely then the int that happened, not unreasonable to work with on the 19.

Third, Assuming a turnover on downs on that 3rd down play (which is one of the very likely outcomes), a 2 and out on the 19 yard line would likely produce a punt from 6-16 yards better field position then at the 35 yard line. This is especially likely near the end of the game, where most coaches stick to running the ball for lower yardage to kill the clock.

Fourth, once again, assuming a turnover on downs on the 19 yard line, you have a slight possibility of getting a safety touch vs next to no chance of a safety at the 35 yard line. A safety touch would have made it an 7 point game and gave Ottawa back the ball. I’ll admit, incredibly unlikely to happen as Hamilton is going to run the ball to kill time on the 19, but a botched snap, and it could happen.

Fifth, when you do an onside kick and you get the ball…you typically only need maybe 30-40 yards to get into field goal range. Something you can do with a couple of plays. Getting a touchdown from an onside kick though, that’s a lot of field position. Given you will be more strapped for time at the end, saving your field goal is the better time management choice I would think.

I though Campbell made the right call going for it.
