OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS have traded for the rights to quarterback Dru Brown from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the teams announced on Thursday.

Could be a good pick-up for the Redblacks. A fifth round pick is fair trade at the moment. No guarantee that Brown won’t be a Franklin.

Combined with Rhymes, the trades are looking up for Redblacks this season.

At least the Bombers got something back for Brown. He was going to be gone anyway. If only the Bombers had gotten Pigrome in return.

Good Trade all the way around. He was gone anyway so why follow the same trail blazed by the Lions re: Reilly, Elks re: Franklin. No guarantee Streveler comes if he gets an NFL offer prior to FA so this is the guy to go for.

Or an Arbuckle. :grinning: Just never know.

Yup . They might have just gone up to six wins on the season as opposed to four with todays transactions .

The REDBLACKS have 7 QB’s on the roster now - Brown, Crum, Masoli, T. Adams, Arbuckle, Pigrome & Dunniway, probably in that pecking order as Masoli won’t be ready to start the season. If you really want Pigrome he’ll almost certainly be there for the taking.

Last year he was released by the Bombers on June 27 & wasn’t signed until July 11 by Ottawa - not because there was a bidding war in the time between.

I thought T. Adams looked pretty good in his brief cameo before being injured.

Ottawa is aggressively making moves to be more competitive in 2024, where the New (sole) GM Ed in Hamilton of my Ticats, seems to be missing in action. Slow to resign free agents and not upgrading at key positions that underperformed when Ed was part of the GM by committee. Ed our first regular season game in Calgary is approaching quickly. You better do more than just putting jerseys on people. If Ticats are not competitive out of the gate you’ll discover your tenure of working in the CFL will come to an abrupt end…

Pigrome would have been a good acquire but he’s worth more than 24 days of negotiating. Also, I think Pigrome is tired of being a 3rd down diver - and wants to see himself compete for better things. Who knows? He may give Brown and the fast kid a run for their money at training camp?

Bombers now counting on Kyle Walters to snag Streveler as heir apparent to Zach - dress a rub w/ little to no CFL experience as the #3 boy, also assign him to holder duty on kicks. 3rd boy will be at league minimum or close to it.

Definitely trending for 6 or 7 wins. Hard to overcome Coach Bobby’s deficiencies.

I just don’t see it with Pigrome. He’s 5’9", 206 built like a RB. Only 2 teams have QB’s under 6’ - BC with Adams & Ottawa with Arbuckle & they’re 5’11’. The trend is to taller QB’s. He wasn’t good on 3rd Down conversions but, to be fair, he’s not built for that work.

There’s been loads of players who sparkle a bit in pre-season & that’s it. Can’t agree with you on this one. I’d be shocked if he landed on the Bombers’ opening day roster. Remember he was gone as soon as Prukop signed up.

Oops. My mistake. Re-reading your post you aren’t pumping him up for the Bombers, just REDBLACKS. IMO no chance he sticks there. But you never know.

This is a good move by the Redblacks. This is in response to the Bombers going after Streveler - chances are they will be disappointed in the result.

Rhymes was at times awesome for the Leos last year. Injuries are the main concern and otherwise Ottawa got a top quality player

Kev Glenn was 5’9" (or less) and far less athletic than Pigrome. Did fairly well over his lengthy CFL career. Also, smart enough to pick up a couple Tim Horton franchises in Michigan along the way!

I have my doubts. With the operations cap the way it is, they might stick with him for a minimum of the entire season. And as @Welder is fond of reminding us, the caretaker believes the Tiger-cats are an astonishing organization (in a good way).

Glenn was listed @ 5’10’" but potato, potahto. Point taken Kyle Murray is 5’10" & is considered small in the NFL so there are exceptions.

My point is more that the trend is going towards bigger & bigger every year in the CFL as well as in the NFL. That’s blatantly easy to see. A guy like Pigrome has to be “heads” above the others to be given the starter’s keys. I know a lot of the Winnipeg guys are hot on him but again, he was available to every team in the league after his release for weeks. Frankly, I don’t see him being kept on the Ottawa roster OR landing on another team if released - not even Winnipeg. If I’m wrong, good for Pigrome - I’d be pulling for him.
