Opinions: Greatest CFL Coach in History?

One thing we can all agree on is Wally has an uncanny ability to find talented QBs. Even if one was a megalomaniac...

Hey Bob came on the scene in 1982 and took the Argos all the way to the Grey Cup. Yes we lost but it was a great season, lost to the Esks under Warren Moon. Right back in the Grey Cup in 83, this time won, first Argo Victory in over 30 years. 1987 Argos would have easily won the Grey Cup had it not been for Gilbert Renfroe`s knee going out in the 2nd half.

BTW I was not attacking you, just my dry sense of humor, sometimes a little to dry for my own good.

no worries stampstamps…no offense taken.

And perhaps I left Obie off my list subconsciously because his Argos used to tar and feather my Cats in the 80’s…

That’s who my grandfather would have said. I am going to go with another oldie Peahead Walker, ALs Just on name alone.

Hugh Campbell, deserves honorable mention for the five consecutive G.C,s,

But i agree , Pop Ivy’s innovation is still influencing the game today.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_Ivy

"Ivy headed north on March 10, 1954, to become head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos of the WIFU. Over the next four years, Ivy compiled a record of 50–14, starting off his tenure with three consecutive Grey Cup championships. His most daring move came prior to the 1956 title game, when he moved quarterback Jackie Parker to running back and inserted Canadian Don Getty. The result was a 50–27 victory over the Montreal Alouettes.

He also became known as an innovator in Canadian football, taking advantage of the more wide-open game by using strategies such as the twin fullback system, the quick snap and the short kickoff. In addition, his formations also included what was known as the “lonesome quarterback”, the precursor to today’s shotgun formation."

Please tell me you’re kidding…

I was thinking even Mike Kelly could find at least 12 friends to "rig" this poll.

I also would suggest Pop Ivy. He brought the split T to the CFL and, demolished the Als for 3 years. He also was a coach who promoted a Canadian QB who was a winner in one of these wins. Pop Ivy also was one of two coaches who promoted a Canadian to first string QB. this was Don McLelland who retired from the ESKS to become Premier of Alberta. The only other coach who gave the QB job to a Canadian was Frank Clair who promoted Russ Jackson.

A friendly correction, the AB you refer to who went on to be the Alberta Premier, was of course Don Getty.

Right on VOR! I'm at the age where memory begins to slip somewhat.
