Thanks, Grover!
That was an excellent heads up play by Winnipeg, it caught the kick off return team napping. You can bet your fanny that we won't be seeing a play like that again anytime this year as I'm sure every team in the league will use it as an example to always be ready.
Routine plays are the easiest to be complacent, you won't be seeing any more complacency on routine plays this year.
Nice play. Gotta be ready.
My all time favorite is still Argos at Ivor Wynne mid 80s. Probably 2nd quarter of a bland game. John Congemi holding for Lance Chomyc. Congemi starts waving his arms, the have no kicking tee. Chomyc runs to the sidelines for a tee. Play clock is running down 6 ... 5 ... 4 ... TiCat defenders get up out of stance and relax. Chomyc cuts straight down the sideline, Congemi calls for the snap and passes it to Chomyc for a first down. Drive ends in TD, sparks Argos to convincing win.
You got a great memory there prairiedog.I was sitting in Ivor Wynne that day and remember that play well.We were all up in the stands saying WTF just happened there??? Still remember us all laughing at first as we thought that the Argos had screwed up royally, then suddenly Chomyc is running down the sidelines with the ball. The only difference is that I recall the play going for a T.D. not setting one up.Never the less it was still one of the screwiest fakes I've ever seen in football
I hope Josh Bartel sees that post. Canadian and Australian slang have some big differences.
I didn’t realize it was that long ago. And for once, the announcers picked up on it, saying “Watch for a fake here.”
And then there was the attempted onside field goal by them a couple of years ago. Didn’t work that time. I wonder if that counted as a missed field goal on the stats page…
Well I suppose I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure they did not score on the play but did score soon after. i remember the time ticking down, thinking they’re not going to get this off, but of course, then you think, maybe it’s a trick and I saw all the Hamilton defense standing up and relaxing and think OMG, Cats are falling for one!! And just then Chomyc cut down the sidelines and it was facepalm time!
