One Question for 2024: How far will new-face Riders go?

As the 2024 season approaches, each team has a question that looms over it that will shape its season. CFL.ca asked players across the league about that question. Our series continues with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the impact that new additions could bring to the team in 2024.

When I look at the Riders I wonder how much have they changed? Thurman is a good add but can he duplicate the MOP season Dean had? Is Carney better than Robertson? Ouellette is an upgrade but he is running behind the Rider OL, not the O/S Argo OL. Hardrick is a great add but Sceviour is coming off a mediocre season & wasn’t in the Stamp plans. Who starts @ LT is up in the air. Is Edwards-Cooper better than Marshall?

To me it comes down to Harris’ health & the new coaches. Mace has a .750 record as a DC his 2 years. Claybrooks had a .740 winning % his 3 years as Stamp DC. Mace is coming out of Toronto into the Mosaic pressure cooker - 2 completely opposite dynamics. Mueller was relieved of his duties as OC last year.

It’s great that the fan base has a lot of optimism going into the season. Last year the Riders started out 3-1 with Trevor Harris. This included 2 wins over the Elks - one by virtue of a goal line stand with Cornelius at the helm, another with the winning point conceded by a rookie returner. This year the Riders face the Elks again in game 1 with McBeth followed by 2 games with the TiCats. Those should be winnable. If not, the temperature is going to get very hot.

I think we will find out very quickly who the Riders are.

It’s the cfl… IF You can get into the PLAYOFFS you can easily win it all.
