One Question for 2024: Can Als repeat as champs?

As the 2024 season approaches, each team has a question that looms over it that will shape its season. CFL.ca asked players across the league about that question. Our series continues with the Montreal Alouettes and their quest to repeat as Grey Cup champions.

Of course they can. Duh!

Yep. Pretty much a wide open race at this point and everyone is in it…

Yep, although I’d be shocked if Calgary or any of last year’s non-playoff teams won the Cup this year or even made it to the big game.

I don’t know about “any of the non- playoff” teams thing. The West will be the “Wild West” this year and when things are close in the standings, a win here, a loss there, and suddenly a team is way up or way down the standings…

Genuinely curious: when was the last time a team finished out of the playoffs one year, then went to the Grey Cup the next year and/or won the Grey Cup? Doesn’t seem like it happens very often? Seems even less likely if the team finished out of the playoffs more than one consecutive season, as has been the case for OTT, SSK, and EDM.

In the west, Winnipeg is still the big dog, though the gap between them and everyone else has lessened.

I think that may be debatable. My feeling is they needed to make more changes after last year. While there are a lot of experienced guys - their replacements are - well - not up to the same standards.
Their line backing was what lost the cup. And they didn’t get younger there. They lost linemen - on both sides of the ball. And Zach’s passing was not as crisp as it used to be.

Like i said - I think the west is going to be a dogfight. one or two games will take you up or down the standings. And all those games in conferance are not going to get easier. As good as Olivera is - they get Ouelette running back at them, or Stanback from BC, and MBT with a great young receiving corps and a running game. (plus Leake, Gittens and more)

Dogfight…and when its that close? Anyone can be a spoiler…
