On a positive note

Let's see some thing positive for the fans here, how about signing durant up, give the fans a break and some relief;

Just curious, but would this give reason to celebrate. We have DD right now and not aware of to many celebrating. He may have achieved bringing the cup here a few yrs back but what spectacular thing have been brought to the field lately. I’m not trying to be rude or snide but I think DD is over rated with this yrs showings. Has he got 5 straight 1’st downs this year in a row, won any games, I once thought he was an OK QB but this yr not. Last yr not, Year before not. Best year last season for him was the grey cup win and their were enough great receivers on board he could have made a completion with a blind fold on, and sometimes it looked like he was.

You put a lot of stock in the few minutes he played last season? You had an issue with 7-2 or 8-2 o whatever the season before when he went down? Considering the 3rd string OL DD has had in front of him much of this year, I think he is playing pretty darned well.

I do not think that DD is the best QB in the league…but he is in the top few.

It would be very positive when Best and Labatte return to the lineup,
What is the status on their return or are they done for the season?

It's hard to believe that there are people who still doubt durant , when the ol is back in tack, I'm sure things will change, it really makes you wonder what the team needs to do . I guess you will never please everyone. Go riders,

To put the success of a team and the amount of 'first downs' in a row on one player/the QB is not only ridiculous, but shows a absolute lack of knowledge of how "TEAM SPORTS" work!! :cowboy:

I guess what I'm saying is that I want the organization to show the fans something positive at this juncture in the season, by signing durant so we can solidify the q.b. Spot and keep working towards Jones's goal'. At this somewhat dismall start to the season.

Now here is some positive news in a year with so much media and team image negativity. Johnathan Newsome did a really really nice thing. Here is and excerpt from the paper.

"** It should be noted that on Labor Day Classic weekend, a down-on-their-luck Regina family was in the Rider ticket office hoping to purchase tickets to the big game. To their dismay, the tickets were simply too expensive. They were heartbroken.

Jonathan Newsome happened to be walking through the ticket office at the very same time. Witnessing the situation first hand, Newsome pulled out his wallet and plopped down enough money to buy tickets for the family at $100 each.

The family was in tears with gratitude. "

That really was a very kind gesture by Newsome and it does show that even though the team is struggling there are players on this team that will go out of their way to help out someone else.

Good on Newsome and thanks for the kind act.

why isn’t the news reporting stories like that? Heaven forbid they put a kind human face on the players. Could you link the article?

I couldn’t agree more. The longer this hangs in the air the more speculation there will be on what our qb situation is for next season.

This team needs to start showing some stability and having Darian under a new contract is a very good starting point. Yes Franklin may be a good qb but really there is so little to prove it based on his playing time that I feel it is a very high risk to take. Having said that I have no issue with them going after Franklin and if necessary dump Gale or Bridge in order to have cap room for Franklin and Durant. Realistically I can’t see us needing to keep both Gale and or Bridge if we did get Franklin. By dumping at least one or as I mentioned both that should free up money to resign Roosevelt too.

I just hope Jones sees it the same way.

Sure its in rod’s blog you have to do some sifting to get to it but he also does an interview with Newsome and his feeling about being here.

I think DD has played very well this season - give that his OL has been swiss cheese. Football is a team sport and one person rarley wins a game on their own. Once the OL is healthy and back I suspect we will see the Riders start to win a few games

There have been 13 new O-Linemen this year - not my stat but that is what Abou said on the Sports Cage a couple weeks ago.

And people are still complaining about DD not getting enough first downs. WOW !

Sorry - but W O W, give your head a shake.

I don't think they will re-sign DD until after the season is over.

Jones is too busy trying to win games now and not worrying about negotiating.

Go Riders Go.

By signing Durrant to a contract so that he can finish his career as a Rider would be very positive news in a year where the majority of the news has been on the negative side.
The offense will show signs of stability once we get our O line healthy as we had way to many injuries there, and once we get back our injured starters, our offence should improve due to better running game blocking and pass protection which will in turn give us a much improved balanced offence to keep opposition defenses guessing.
It took a while for the pieces to come together on the defensive side and there is still a bit of tweaking to do, but on the whole I like what I see,
some people say penalties are borne out of frustration, some say a lack of talent, and others say its a reflection of coaching ?
I personally don't know the answer on how to rectify this situation,
consistency in officiating will help to a degree, but the coaches and players have to learn to play through it and try ( key word TRY ) to not let it affect them.
to me the biggest plus to having the team succeed is continuity in player personnel from week to week, as football is a true team sport where one players success depends on the rest of his team mates success at their position and this can only be achieved by stability in player personnel.
trick plays on offense I am not a fan of, because you either look like a hero or a zero, so until you can execute at a high level, play basic football.
as a team we are today where I envisioned them at week 6.

The thing is though is either Best or LaBatte going to be back? I actually have my doubts and wouldn't be shocked if both are done playing football.

If this is the case then either we need to pick up something very good in the draft or an NFL cut, not likely, or via trade route. The iss ue is what do we have to trade for a NI O linemen or any starting O lineman for that matter? We have all ready dump more picks then I care for so that probably isn't an option and to get a good quality O linemen would probably take someone we can't afford to lose, like a Rosevelt or Holley even Durant.

Montreal seems to be on the verge of a melt down as we speak. Cato lost it today on Stafford and Cartier in practice and he threw a punch at one of them. Cato had to be escorted to the locker room by Kavis. Apparently Cartier and Stafford were trashing Cato or something and he had enough of it. With all this going on the Als are 300k over cap and are in serious trouble of getting nailed for it. Only solution is to have a fire sale and trade players for picks probably as trading players for players probably won't help enough. I guess we could get one that way and it's probably the least costly route other then the draft route.

LaBatte toyed with retirement…his recovery from the concussion has been slow…but last I heard he was leaning towards a return. I wouldn’t be stunned if it didn’t happen this year or at all though…kudos for him for evaluating what is important and if he is willing to compound that…a concussion is bad enough, but when you bounce back slowly it really makes one evaluate things. It was originally felt to be pretty minor but has lingered…I know he feels he could probably return to practice…but at this point he may hang em up for the season or more.

If Best is not practicing this week then I would suspect next…

both of those are based on a conversation last week.

well one positive note would be Khalif Mitchell, is gone!! yah got yer wish Jimmy!! :rockin:

Yup and not a minute too soon either. Hope he forgets his way here ever again.

Hello Riders fans, new poster and looking ahead to discuss Saskatchewan Roughrider football.
